Unicode escapes

I'd like to be able to type in Unicode escape sequences--for those of us who know (or are interested to browse) Unicode code points--and have the Unicode character displayed.

While I figure a slash command could do this, I think it'd be nice to have the escape sequence remain in source so it can be viewed and edited (useful, for example, to toggle between emoji with a similar code point such as check boxes).
