VACATION mode / Prompts? BEACHBALL
2nd year as a Discord gaming server host and we are seeing the same trend as last year - people lose their tablets, laptops, PCs, school Internet connections over the summer, folks go on vacation, and activity craters, creating an online gaming / social media black hole. Would be nice to reach out to users near the end of school year, approach of Christmas, approach of Spring Break, and build a widget like a "BEACHBALL".... (Beachballs are fun, they symbolize vacation, and folks know whats up - you hit it in a crowd, it goes wherever, and it'll likely work it's way back.)
Anyhow, the Beachball icon or prompt could ask as 'lull periods' approach, and you can set a reminder to ease you back in when you return. Obviously having pin-point dates invites privacy concerns, but Summer, Christmas, Spring Break are often massive drop offs for online participation. Would be nice for the tools to flag to others to give users a break, and then 'invite' users back after the holiday window and maybe check in on them over the lull period with email updates about top posts, servers, etc.
Your data folks have the actual numbers for participation, would be interesting if there is correlation across the platform, not just in gaming.
Parents (myself) might appreciate it because teens don't feel the need to obsess over their Discord on vacation/holiday. Other users might just like a solid break without 100 DM's 'where are you?'.
"Read the Beachball.. I'm on a break... Peace out."
Finally, Discord could send appropriate, inviting messages / emails / notices early January, mid April, mid August "PARTY'S OVER, COME BACK!" and users could come back to their social groups in a pretty smooth transition.
