Badges in compact mode

Hi there,

I think a recent test has disabled badges in compact mode.

This is a big problem for myself and users in many channels I am in, who use badges as an indicator of important information attached to a user, such as their pronouns. 

Given that badges do not meaningfully take up space, I am not sure it is reasonable to remove them from compact mode, especially given their utility during chat.

An alternative would be to add a flag in the Appearance settings or to break out "cosy/compact" into a slider. But removing them outright is not of value.
