[Suggestion] Matchmaking
I think discord's in a GREAT position to setup a matchmaking system that would work for pretty much any game out there. Currently to grab players for multiplayer games that I want to try, I just post a message in a server's "General" channel, but that's usually only going to be seen by a handful of people that are browsing that channel at that time. Often times I'll ask if someone wants to try a game and hear that they had wanted to try it weeks ago, but couldn't find anyone. Here's my matchmaking suggestion:
1. Allow players to select games in their profile that they want to join parties to play. Players could then search for people who are also looking for groups in the same games and add them to a group text chat to coordinate. Discord could allow filtering to only search for parties within friends, within particular servers, or even make yourself available for public parties within a range of timezones/regions.
2. Allow Server admins to set up channels as matchmaking channels for certain games; give users the option to opt-in to autoadd, where when their search matches with a channel in one of their servers, they're automatically added.
3. Set up a calendar system, where you can fill in a personal calendar showing what games you want to matchmake for when. Allow players to make their calendars private, or visible to specific players, visible to all friends. or visible to certain servers. When you set your game times for certain games, display other players (whose visibility settings allow it) who want to play the same games at those times.
4. Finally, for all of these options, allow people in your friends list (depending on visibility and privacy options of course) to see what games you want to play even if they don't have the same games in their matchmaking profile, allowing friends to discover new games and try something they might otherwise not have thought to try.
