Forums would be powerful for communities if they didn't auto-close threads and posts.
I run a discord community around DnD, and I had a great plan to essentially host my weekly content "blog" in a discord forum channel. It would be perfect, scrollable content only postable by me, with an easy place to get conversations going for members! Searchable, laid out beautifully, not needing to link twitter posts to discuss in discord. And all of my mostly complete social media posts would link back to discord to get the full thing.
However, if everything auto expires weekly at the latest, then I would literally only have one post available at a time. At that point, it's the exact same function as making a new text channel every week. Which is to say, pointless and time consuming. It seems to me that this feature was thought of for bustling 3000 person servers with high activity, so you missed the incredible functionality you almost have for modest servers that need to grow!
My ask:
Remove the auto-close requirement on forum threads/posts; At least for posts from moderation/admins.

In order to reduce channel clutter, I want to consolidate multiple channels each devoted to single topics/usages into one forum in the form of threads, and limit the ability to create new threads. These threads would be intended to serve long-term discussion and wouldn't be active all the time. If they auto close they just disappear from the forum, which is a bit silly. If a channel just disappeared because no one posted in it for a while people would wonder what the heck was going on.
I imagine this is more to do with controlling the amount of cache sent to clients. The problem is, this is supposed to be a forum. My users voted against having a web forum because of the inconvenience of splitting discussion into two separate places, but are very keen on the idea of having a forum on Discord. The feature is almost there but not enough to take the place of a web forum, and that's frustrating.
