Option to disable "Mosaic" layout
Recently, Discord added a new "Mosaic" layout when posting multiple images, cropping them to small squares to save space.
This is a great feature for some, and many like it. But there's a large portion of the userbase which disagree with this new feature, and would prefer it be reverted.
The best solution here I feel is to add an option under the "Text & Images" Settings page, allowing each user to individually toggle it on and off. On by default, as Discord seems to be orienting for more general use these days.
Obviously, turning it off will revert to how it was before, just having one after the other. Or they could be laid out horizontally, as they somewhat are now, but without the cropping.
You can find people's dislike, but also like, for this feature at this reddit thread, along with more reasoning why adding an option would be the best solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/114wtoj/can_discord_just_not_do_this_please_the_new/
Everyone's workflow (for work or personal use) is different, and having an option is the best solution for everyone to be happy.

I wholeheartedly agree; I personally prefer the 'old' layout for image packs overall, but I can see the new mosaic format having its uses.
In general, though, it's much better to be able to toggle what layout a message with an image group will appear as. With a mosaic layout, you can get a general view of all of the images sent all at once; even then, this makes it impractical to see each image individually, since not only the images, while in this format, have inconvenient cropping, you can't simply scroll through the images sent and get a good view of each one of them in details. You'd have to carefully look into the tiny, compressed version of an image among the others around it and select it to see it whole; not only does this take more time and 'effort', it gets repetitive to do it every time.
With the old format, you can see each of the images in detail as you scroll through them. However, it does take some time to get past all of them, especially if you're looking for an image in specific or if you're just trying to get a general view of all that was sent.
As mentioned, both have their uses; but making mosaic the only displayable layout is extremely bothersome. It'd be more practical and much more preferable to be able to toggle both layouts for each message, or for all messages altogether, be it through an option, a little button, a setting... The way it is is NOT good at all.10 -
Please!! It is so annoying to have to click to expand every image.

Fully agree here. It's like Twitter cropping, looks bad and has no real purpose other than saving space, which isn't necessary with the search function and how fast you can scroll. Having that option would be amazing. I purposefully didn't update my app to avoid getting that layout but it was forced in anyway.

wastes users' time clicking on every single image and honestly isn't very accessible either. for an app with roots in the gaming community, kind of funny to make a change that makes sending lots of screencaps look really goofy.
i know putting a toggle on everything isn't feasible but this is genuinely just bad. i don't know how this benefits users in any way unless they actually DONT want to look at images. i can only think this must be a change to help the app itself in the backend somehow but i don't understand that kind of thing. (kind of like how gg sans actually combines double tt as a single character to save space).

Option would be great, for my usage of discord is this mosaic thing useless and quiet annoying since i didn't need to expand images with old layout, now i need to click on images to see them full, might rather roll back to old version of app

Oh my god YES!! Literally woke up, and I get to see 10 really shittily compressed images all in one message. The fact that Discords image limit is so high makes it look worse as you do more. It works for Twitter, because they only allow up to 4, and want to keep it to one section of the screen. Discord doesn't need that! Messages are made to be able to flow seamlessly into one another, not placing your nametag above each one. So for images to be treated differently then any other message just feels like a stupid idea.

Fully agree, clicking to see an image is annoying

This is for Discord to collect information about what images are being clicked on. And has nothing to do with improving the experience, it is only to do with increasing profits for the investors.

I'd love a toggle. As an artist I don't always want my images auto-resized or cropped, small images like sprites and emote art look particularly bad and fuzzy when auto-scaled up. But I don't want to spam people with individual message pings when sending lots of images either. An option for how you would like each image post to display would be the best of both worlds, I think.

+1 even though they probably wont listen since they removed the experiment toggle for it

+1 but they won't listen . I'm sure this subject has been swept so far under the rug by now they don't even know how to fix it anymore. discord makes too much money to care about users, the forced formatting is something to do with a marketing model for maximizing profit, or for using it in AI algorithms or some other weird form of collecting and selling our data. Auto image formatting is for profit not for artist. Discord is only concerned with money : look at the way they force users to change their name, even after years, now if you want a name you like you'll have to turn to the dark web to purchase it.
