Discord having 35% CPU usage spikes every 5-6s causing VR problems.

My computer is relatively old (i5-4670k, not OCed, and a GTX 960. Meaning performance is of the utmost importance.) and I just recently got a Rift S VR Headset along with Beat Saber. I basically live on discord but after having lag spikes in Beat Saber I decided to play a map and record my CPU usage. It was showing that every 5-6 seconds discord was randomly spiking its CPU usage up to 30-35% usage. (This is with the GUI closed, too!)

When Discord spiked in usage, it would last for a few seconds then go back to 2-4% usage, then repeat. When discord stops the usage spike, my GPU is sitting at 20% usage and my CPU at 70%, and Beat Saber runs fine. I only lag when Discord spikes in CPU usage.

I've enabled and disabled hardware acceleration and the problem still occurs when the discord GUI is open. Sure, I could just fully close discord, but I would like to be able to communicate with my friends when we play VR, so that's not much of an option. Does anyone know what may be causing this, and how to prevent it?
