Change or make the option to change ping appearance

I've noticed in a large server that I moderate that a lot of users request that you don't ping them, including in replies. They each have their own various reasons, from the sound to not wanting the notif, which can be changed. However, the one other common reason is because they find the yellow highlight can sometimes be overwhelming or it makes the text harder to read. It would be helpful to those people if there was a setting to turn that off and/or change the appearance of pings. Thanks!
