Mobile Redesign Feedback
A concise summary of some feedback on the mobile redesign that's in the works, attempting to avoid bias from what I'm used to.
1. The gesture to get to channel list feels less responsive-- rather than a large sliding motion, it's a small arrow that then jumps to a different screen instantly. Making this indicator a bit larger or perhaps reimplementing some kind of sliding motion could help it feels more active. (In addition, maybe increasing the acceptable diagonality for a swipe if it's across the whole screen? I'm not sure how easy that would be to implement, but counting a swipe that's still more across than down would be nice for being able to quickly navigate.)
2. The lack of an indication of what channel was previously being viewed makes it harder to stay oriented in the app. Sometimes, I just want to quickly check if other channels have anything new-- but with the current state of the redesign, I then have to read through the channel names just to find the conversation I was already in, rather than simply swiping back to the left. At minimum, some sort of indicator mark on the previously viewed channel would be greatly appreciated.
Addendum: Alongside the indicator, saving the position within the channel (if one is scrolled up and viewing older messages) when another channel is not selected would be useful.
3. I feel like a down-swipe gesture could be added to the top bar to make navigation more smooth. This would not conflict with scrolling-- you cannot scroll if the swipe starts on this bar, anyways-- and swipe navigation helps make the app feel more connected and easy to navigate.
