Elevating Discord's Chat Interface: A Proposal for Markdown Syntax Enhancement
Dear Discord Development Team,
I'm reaching out as an avid user of Discord to propose a feature enhancement that could add more flexibility and user-friendliness to our platform.
1. The Current Situation
Currently, when users create a hyperlink using Markdown syntax, a link preview is automatically generated. This functionality, although useful in many cases, has sparked a debate within the user community.
2. The Ongoing Debate
There seems to be a split in the community: some users appreciate the additional context provided by link previews, whereas others prefer a cleaner chat interface without automatic previews.
3. The Proposed Solution
I propose introducing a feature that allows users to use both hypertext and disable link previews simultaneously. This could be implemented with a simple alteration in the Markdown syntax. For instance, users could wrap the hypertext in "<" and ">", similar to the current system for disabling link previews. Here's an example: `< [your text](https://yourlink.com) >`
4. Closing Thoughts
By introducing this feature, we could cater to both sides of the debate and offer users more control over their chat interface. I appreciate your time in reviewing this proposal and your continuous efforts to improve Discord.
Thank you for considering my proposal. I look forward to your feedback.
Best Regards,
Kyle
