Little suggestion, but useful.

I suggest adding an indicator, like those in other messaging applications, to indicate when a message has been read or not. 
That can be turned on and off. 
For example:
"Receive and send unread indicators? Yes/No"
Or a separate option:
"Show read indicator on messages? Yes/No"
I think that would be very useful.
