[Important] Suggestion for the general security of Discord users
Hello,
with this post I would like to make an important suggestion for the security of all Discord users.
As some users probably know. Discord has a problem with scam/spam accounts for years, which will not disappear from the platform and will probably not improve if nothing is done about it.
Unfortunately, there are still many people who fall for these accounts and thus lose their access to their account temporarily or even permanently, for example when they are invited to a NSFW server by a stranger and then verify themselves on this NSFW server with an unverified Discord bot by entering their login details there. The hacked accounts then join other servers and spread the invites to these NSFW servers via direct message or in public channels. These accounts are incredibly annoying and it takes a lot of time to constantly ban them.
So my suggestion would be this:
Add a function for the server owners/administrators to disable the “Write a direct message to a stranger” function in the server settings for the various roles, so that only people who are either friends or have a specific role that has the permission enabled to be able to write a direct message to strangers can write a direct message to each other.
This function already exists btw, in connection with the “Server security measures” function, as you can deactivate the function there for a certain period of time to write a direct message to people you are not friends with.
I hope that this suggestion will be accepted and implemented as quickly as possible so that there is less spam in general and fewer people fall for it.
