Request for Full Burmese Unicode Font Support and Proper Handling of Long Burmese Text in Discord

Hello Discord Team,

I am a member of the Discord community who communicates frequently in Burmese. I have noticed significant challenges due to the lack of proper support for Burmese Unicode fonts, especially when dealing with long paragraphs of text. Specifically, when sending long Burmese text, some tone marks are stripped from the words, leading to incorrect rendering and loss of meaning. I am writing this post to request the implementation of features that would enhance the experience for Burmese-speaking users.

Technical Issues Observed:

1. Stripping of Tone Marks:
   • Issue: When sending long paragraphs of Burmese text, some tone marks are being stripped, causing words to be incorrectly rendered.
   • Impact: This not only disrupts the readability of the text but also changes the meaning of the words, making effective communication difficult.
2. Improper Rendering of Burmese Unicode Fonts:
   • Issue: Currently, Discord does not fully support Burmese Unicode fonts, leading to improper rendering of characters.
   • Impact: This results in fragmented text and an inconsistent user experience for Burmese speakers.

Proposed Solutions:

   • Benefit: This will prevent fragmentation and ensure that all characters, including tone marks, are displayed correctly.
2. Enhanced Handling of Long Paragraphs:
   • Implementation: Update the text rendering engine to handle long paragraphs of Burmese text without stripping tone marks or causing formatting issues.
   • Benefit: This will maintain the integrity of the text and improve readability, allowing for clear and effective communication.

Technical Details for Implementation:

• Font Integration: Include popular Burmese Unicode fonts such as Pyidaungsu and Noto Sans Myanmar in Discord’s font library.
• Text Rendering: Ensure the text rendering engine supports complex scripts and combining characters, which are essential for Burmese text.
• Line Break Handling: Implement proper line-breaking rules for Burmese text to avoid mid-character breaks and maintain textual integrity.
