Proposal to Remove User Notes for Enhancing Anonymity on Discord
Dear Discord Team,
I’m writing to express my concern about the current state of anonymity on Discord. While Discord is a fantastic platform for connecting people with shared interests, there has been a growing issue with stalking and harassment by groups of users. This has made it increasingly difficult to maintain privacy and protect oneself, even after changing usernames and avatars.
To address this, I would like to propose the following changes:
Remove User Notes: Currently, users can leave notes on other users’ profiles. This feature, while convenient for some, can be misused for tracking and targeting users. Removing the ability to leave notes would help reduce this risk.
Hide Account Creation Date: Displaying the account creation date can be used to identify and target newer accounts, making it easier for malicious users to identify and harass individuals who may have created new accounts to avoid such behavior. Hiding or anonymizing this information would enhance user privacy.
These changes would significantly improve the level of anonymity on Discord, helping to protect users from unwanted attention and harassment. I believe that by implementing these features, Discord would be taking a strong step toward ensuring a safer and more private environment for all users.
Thank you for considering these suggestions. I look forward to your response and hope that together, we can make Discord a better place for everyone.
Best regards,
Jack

Addressing user notes, having user notes doesn't give people capabilities that people don't already have. A user's ID is accessible to everyone and they could either add their own notes in a custom client or record information about a user elsewhere using their ID. You can't change (or hide) your ID. Even if they tried to hide user ID (possibly accomplishing what you suggest), it's a core part of how Discord functions and could easily be grabbed by anyone with a custom client or anyone who knows how to view the memory of the page.
Addressing account creation date, this majorly helps people avoid scams. If I get a message from an account created less than 48 hours ago, it's almost certainly a scammer. I haven't seen anyone get harassed for simply being a new user so, from my perspective, the point you bring up isn't a major issue.0 -
You’re technically right, but regular users don’t go around writing custom clients or recording other people’s IDs. For most, it’s just too much hassle. Because of these notes, it can be really hard to find a new community where you’re not recognized, and even voice modulators don’t help anymore. It feels like you’re exposed everywhere you go. And I’m not even mentioning the omnipresent bots. Some of them will give up your chat history to an admin at the first request. But still, I’d like to remain anonymous at least to regular users.

I have never known user notes to be viewable by anyone but the user that created the notes. Your suggestions and your reply (voice modulators?) sound more like someone trying to perpetuate a scam.
