i_think_discord_just_wants_privacy_and_safety_for_its_user, but I do agree with this specific request, that is you get a temporary notification of the other user when only you are online too in Discord and then the notification disappears after a few seconds or when you quit Discord. Also, allow the user to decide if they can be used to notify the other user when they go online.
So, if all my suggestions are applied, then you don't need to know if they are online while you're offline. That's the only thing I disagree with, along with permanent notifications. If you wanna wait for you friend, get online. That'll be your fair sacrifice. Skype do be less privacy since you already sharing a lot about yourself by existing there. You don't be discording with Discord.

Please, please add this feature, Discord.
This would be so useful for people not on our friends list as well, for collaborating on projects together without needing to add someone to your friends list.

I'll add my support and say that this is a feature that should be available for anyone your friends with at the very least, assuming that they don't set themselves to be invisible.
I know some people are concerned about privacy, but you can easily set it so that if the person being watched sets themselves to invisible than nobody will get any alerts when they come online.
But if they are already open to telling people that they are online, I see zero reason why it shouldn't be automated rather than having to manually check.

This would be pretty cool tbh! I would be all for this if it was considered. It would help me and potentially others be able to interact with their friends more often.

Ridiculous that this feature isn't implemented yet. It would be monumentally beneficial to people like me that are waiting for friends to be online just to find out they've been online for several minutes because i forgot to check and then they go afk/busy waiting for me and then i have to wait even longer. Most people only have a little time after work to socialize on discord.

Please Discoed add this! I'm so sick of constantly having to open the app to check. Make it so we can control who we want to get notified by and who not to when they come online. I beg.
