I'd just like to mention that I would be willing to pay monthly for threads on each server I administer that uses them.

    Threaded messaging is important. period.

Maybe not on a server with 10 or less ppl but if you are trying to have a discussion within even a medium-sized server things get cluttered rather quickly.

Replies are nice (and it was about time they got added) but they solve a totally different issue.

    Give threads pls, thx

    Commenting to bump this

Understandably, this would be a re-work on both the front and back-ends of the service, to add a 'thread' to each message posted to a channel, but it doesn't seem like it should take too much effort to add a threadID containing a sorted list of messages (like I'm assuming the channel probably contains), back that up within a message on the database, and implement a local cache to store them once retrieved.

The UI would probably be a bit more challenging however, I'd imagine.... But some inspiration for that design could likely be taken from slack's presentation, as long as it isn't patented....

Lack of threads is the only thing that is preventing me to move my whole community to use discord

Big fan of threads as well. It really is a mess without them when you have large channels.

Hey, Discord! People want to use you instead of Slack. Give 'em threads! This is the biggest problem when switching from Slack. Everybody is afraid of overflooded channels.

1000000%. Discord would wipe out Slack if they added threads

Just commenting as the 'yet one more person' who wants threads! I see many people mentioning Slack threads and their usefulness, which I absolutely agree to! I recently started using slack for my job, and use threads HEAVILY. my usage of threads there is the exact reason I want it on discord!

I even want thread on whatsapp but that's a whole other story :)

    Hello!
Our communities would also need this functionality to fully replace Slack with Discord...
It seems fairly simple in terms of technical challenges while being a massive downside to making Discord a professional communication tool...
Any ETD would be highly appreciated!

2 years later they just added reply which is a tiny step in the right direction. but why is there still no thread. Its so timeconsuming to keeping chatrooms clean and easy to follow without threads.

Agree, I tried to find some comparison between slack and discord as I was wondering where should I create a new community. It seemed to me that I could give Discord a chance. And then, the first message and... WAIT, WHAT? I can't reply in a thread? That can't be possible... We know how it ends :D For the moment this is no go for me in the long run.

Would be incredibly useful to have threads as they solve a problem that channels cannot solve: they are fully dynamic.

    Dear Discord,

Replies and message threads are not the same thing.

P.S. It's been over two years.

Sincerely, a pissed off community ^.

I don't see why discord trivializes this very important feature especially for business, frankly if discord makes it our business will switch directly from slack to discord. Please make it real

The current reply feature makes it almost impossible to follow a conversation if you were not there for when it happened. A "group replies together" feature would be AMAZING.

Wild to see how long this has been requested. I'm new-ish to Discord and honestly can't believe how disorganized the threading/reply feature makes the overall chat!

Please allow threads to be moved from the main window into a dedicated thread window like Slack has!

    Hi everyone !
We emailed Discord two weeks ago as our team would be interested to know if they even plan to work on this feature. We have not heard back from them yet (Christmas + COVID...).
Did any of the 533 members following this post recently email Discord about this and got more visibility as of why it takes so long and when they might be implementing it ?
If yes, we would be super grateful if you could share your insights with a comment on this post so we can all plan accordingly...

    Bump this

Have quite experience with Slack and MS Teams. Threading in Slack is just nuts to keep chat tidiness (MS Teams has it only in limited within posts, but not in classic chat) and I really miss this feature on Discord as threading just feels like next gen in chat for large groups and communities. People can comment on specific post/topic without bloating the channel and this is especially true higher the amount of active people you have in channel, it becomes greatly disorganized

Reply feature is for sure useful, but if you miss the time of discussion and came later? Man that's where mess starting to happen, now since chat is chronologically sorted (logically) your reply to older post is now all of a sudden inside different active topic and that's a mess

Being a developer I know this is may not be an easiest feature to implement, but also not that hard either... and having such feature can make Discord stand up even more and look how many people are interested, it's not really negligible amount of people I believe

    You can do it!

It would be a massive headache to develop, but... I'd like this feature please :D

100% need this feature. Discord is so good in so many ways. It's odd that this important feature is being treated like such a non-important after thought.

Just found this suggestion. This is a killer feature and separates Discord from the competition. This is the only reason why I use Slack right now but if Discord implemented message threads, I would switch over almost instantly. Clearly this is a feature that everyone wants.
