Hi Discord Team and dear reader!

 

This would be a feature request for Message Threads, like we can see on Slack.

 

As a matter of fact, when sending messages in a crowded channel (+15ppl) conversations can easily get lost in the mix. Message threads solve this issue by creating a "sub-channel" on the message that initiated the thread, allowing participants to continue their conversation without spamming the main channel and allowing other users to do the same.

    The problem I had with Threads on Slack was that they were easily lost. It would be nice to be able to right-click a message and "Start Thread" (maybe name it) and have it added nested underneath a channel like a sub-channel. An option to maybe auto-remove after some time inactive at which point it could still be accessed by a link left in the main channel or from a "Recent Threads" drop down in the channel list. Users could pin the thread to keep it from auto-hiding in the channel list if they knew they needed to get back to it quickly later. So far not having this is are biggest complain against moving to Discord.

    Hi, just accepted an invite Discord and am baffled as to how to have a conversation without threads – after 2 minutes it's a word salad – is there any plan to implement this feature?

    Wolfgang today I've learned that you can run some scripts that open the Experiments tab (you can find those in google). But it violates the Terms of Service, so people keep saying that no one should do that. Also, you never know what this script really does. It might be a scam.

    So despite the fact that I'm eager to test and use threads, I myself have decided to wait until it is at least on the Canary build.

    Wolfgang as far as I understand, Discord has three publically available builds: 

    1) The stable one. You can download it on the website.

    2) Discord PTB (Public Test Build) - beta version, less stable, more experiments inside. It's on the very same page under the "Feeling experimental?" header.

    3) Discord Canary - alpha version, the least stable, probably containing bugs, but all the new features come to this build first. You can download it here.

    I'm using Canary, but threads weren't implemented to it yet.

    It’s in the experimental tab that’s hidden (only discord devs) however it won’t work (tested briefly and immediately reversed the change)

    Just stay patient :) it’s probably being worked on but on a slow pase

    I switched on the developer options in the menu before I realised it was against the TOS. I can tell you threads looks excellent and will be really nice when they release it.

    Screenshots I won't post though, as I don't want to get banned or something.

    It's working on your server or only private messages? Your server is premium or free?

    Serverside it did not work. Only the UI was available, but the endpoints rejected the requests. I mean primarily that it looks great. Free server.
