Sending messages by Ctrl+Enter
Really missing an option of sending messages by Ctrl+Enter combination and going to a new line by pressing Enter.
All other chats that I use have this option, and when I switch to Discord and back I get confused by what combinations I should use at the moment.
I know that in Discord I can go to a new line by pressing Shift+Enter and send a message by pressing Enter. But it's not what I'm used to and not what I usually do in any other chat.
It would be nice if Discord had such a simple, convenient and conventional option.

We claim that Discord should offer CHOICES of shortcut key for sending messages.
Some people are sending messages with only Enter key but others are sending with Ctrl + Enter key like me.What Nathan Riddle claim is correct but some chatting services are offering us choices to send messages with Ctrl + Enter key, for example, Slack and LINE.

Couldn't agree more with having more choices (with all software).
My point, (if any) was that Discord isn't supposed to be a messaging board, or a comment system [at least in the way I perceive it]. It is designed to be a chat program (flow of conscious thought). Most (all?) chat programs default to enter = send.
Asking the developers to change something that is inherently different to their core identity didn't make sense.
(adding options/choices does).
FWIW, I would also prefer this option as I used Discord as an alternative to Slack...
I would say we are in the minority compared to the gamers who use Discord.-7 -
Alternatively, if you're on a Mac, you can use BetterTouchTool and create a shortcut to intercept Enter and send the Shift+Enter keycode.

In general I find the biggest issue with not "Enter" be a normal new line is that you end up with people spamming lots of one or two line messages, that often get interrupted part way through, instead of one coherent message.
It makes stuff like reactions to messages weird too.

Chill out guys. Discord is just a small startup after all. Can't expect much from it. Especially such an advanced feature like making Enter start a new line in the text-input box

So embarrassing to send half a message just because I use apostrophes and go a millimeter too far on the right of the keyboard.

This is such an essential feature, every other messenger has it, why not Discord? Leave Enter as the default and give us an option to use Ctrl + Enter instead. Please give us a switch to let us use Ctrl + Enter to send!

It's so weird that this simple but oh so much needed feature is still not done, despite years of requests. As if developers don't hear the community.

It's a shame that the developers pay no attention to these basic features. The option to assign a key for sending should be there from the very beginning, and Ctrl+Enter should be the default as a generally more ergonomic option.

Easy request was made "2 years ago" and nothing changed... Seems, they're really care about their users...
Please add this choice, I spent a lot of time digging in settings and reading manual, I coudln't imagine that there is no this simple setting.

My first language has diacritics and the ' key is right beside the enter key, so sometimes when I want to type a `ç` or `é` in the middle of a phrase I accidentally send an incomplete message that I have to edit after that. An option for not sending with the enter key would prevent that kind of mistake.

I believe Discord have had enough time to implement the option because the app UI is updated recently.

I (one of Japanese speakers) often accidentally send an incomplete message too. Because Enter key is used for sending messages but it is also used for converting Hiragana to Kanji at the same time.

This discussion belongs among the most bizarre ones I have ever read. Finding reasons why the user shouldn't have the freedom to choose the setting that he's used to and that makes him comfortable. Or even discussing reasons why someone likes something when something else is "common".
Different people have different preferences and there're good and valid reasons for that. Those who are objecting to that or don't understand it should really deeply think about themselves and their place and part in society.
Currently, Discord is the only chat app that doesn't allow me to change the default "Send by Enter" behavior and it's causing me issues all the time. I really wish that I and anyone else have the freedom to choose the configuration we're used to and that makes sense to us.
Diversity is good. Almost universally.
