Please add it. It's quite a basic and essential feature for a messaging app.

Has anyone seen any feedback from a Discord dev as to why this hasn't been done? It's really ridiculous. It would be such a huge benefit to the user base and I can't imagine the code change to be that difficult! Would love to hear if there is an official reason this isn't being done.

Still no word from Discord on this. It’s really frustrating.

I hope they are still working on this quick reply option. This would be great!

Sadly the iOS discord team seems more focused on implementing discord UI changes and nitro perks rather than OS features that would vastly improve the experience.

Maybe they should make it a nitro perk, then, if that's the only way they'll actually do it. Ugh.

I don’t they think they would ever do it for nitro only users, nitro has always been you get some cosmetic changes like a badge, custom 4 digit code, gif emoji’s and such. Nitro is a way to support them and gain some cool perks but it does not affect the functionality of discord which an Apple Watch app / better notifications would be functional and not cosmetic. (Really hope they do make an app / better notifications soon! Been waiting for this since I got my Apple Watch in July. Come on discord!)

Discord has responded to some people on twitter who have asked this and their reason they can't is something along the lines of Apples API restrictions. Which kinda sounds like BS.... slack did it just fine...
Just got my watch and majority of my communication with friends is through Discord. Kinda a bummer.

I mean that sounds like a load of bullshit because it’s a literally built into Facebook messenger it’s built into slack like either they’re looking at the wrong APIs or they just don’t wanna do it and they’re bullshitting us - post a link to this twitter thread

Slack is built using Electron just as Discord is. They're both listed at https://electronjs.org/apps.

This excuse doesn't hold water. Come on, Discord. We need a little less fluff for one update so we can get this useful feature.

Can't find a public thread on it unfortunately. Might have been on reddit or elsewhere. However looking at their tweets on the subject at all is enough to show they don't care. For the past 3 years people have asked over and over and all they do is refer them back to the feedback site they don't check. But hey, I can nitro boost the same server twice.
    Soon.™

Those tweets seem to be specifically about an Apple Watch standalone app, which isn't what we need for iOS banner replies. All we need is the norifications to be interactable, and they will mirror to the Watch seamlessly.

Edit: It seems the comment confirming that discord is not working on this feature at all has been removed. This was replying to that comment.

If that’s the case, then I’ll likely be taking my servers/communications elsewhere. I can’t be the only one who’s using Discord to communicate with people on their phone a majority of the time.

What makes this whole thing even crappier is that apparently discord on android does indeed have this functionality but iOS doesn’t.

So I commented on this thread over a year ago. Seeing all the improvements made to Discord for mobile over the year of 2019 I was sure we would get it eventually. I really hope this is in their pipeline.

Making quick replies is one of the basic functions of any messaging app on smartphones nowadays. It really needs to be there.

And if it’s impossible to do which I highly doubt. I would love to see a detailed reply from a Discord employee on why this is the case.

    @untubular agreed 100%

Exactly. I don’t believe there is a reason why this feature can’t be added.

Considering the reply's I have seen the last few days, including the ones mentioning Slack which I haven't had the pleasure of using. I don't see why this cannot happen, I could use discord as one of my primary apps to communicate with friends but I don't and this is one of the reasons. I cannot understand how such a basic function could go unmissed for iOS. After all the research and comments I have view maybe Discord really just don't care.

Either they don’t care, or they aren’t aware; I’m not sure which is worse, which is why I’m hoping it’s just they’re not aware. that’s why I made that tweet and I’m having people RT to raise visibility. This squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that nonsense

Also considering that skype has had this feature (and Siri messaging) for years, (they added it a couple months after the API was created) and that discord’s whole thing is “its time to ditch Skype and teamspeak”, I feel like they really need to add it. I’m sure they could make it work, even if it was only for dms or something that would still be useful (although I would love the ability to do it on servers). I think it would really bring up the usefulness of discord to a lot of people. I love discord but it lacks in a lot of areas like this. It’s also equally infuriating that android has had this feature for a while. I wouldn’t even mind if it was the only new thing all year, it’s all I really want at this point. Maybe 2020 will be the year of features after all the ui improvements last year.

I mean hell, even the iOS callkit integration is seriously lacking and buggy af.

YALL LMAO. I originally posted a comment above @Casuallynoted as Cartaphilus that was removed.
When trying to post here on that account 5 minutes ago it was immediately marked as pending approval, not sure what that means but..... seems a little sus. But could just be a Coincidence uwu.

Discord is absolutely aware and they don't care.

  • Alphalas

@fei that might not be bad though - usually when people say smart watch integration they mean actual dedicated apps. Apple has it set automatically that if you can quick reply from notifications, you can do the same from your watch. So it’s two slightly different things

  • Cas

Yeah... I mean quick reply support adds the ability to not just respond from notifications, but also from AirPods and the Apple Watch. That’s a major boost in app functionality imo.

In my original message I made it very clear that I was just talking about a way to reply. I was going to post a screenshot or the whole log but I don't know how the comment filtering works and I didn't want to get sniped. The reply above is all I got.
I could be wrong and they could definitely be working on just the quick reply..... but it doesnt seem like it.

I’ve been watching this issue since the very beginning. I think there was another one that they closed in favor of this one so I’m not sure the age of a year is very accurate.

Come on Discord....this really is ridiculous. I honestly can’t name any mainstream chat software that doesn’t have this functionality. Heck, even Microsoft Teams has this crap and literally everyone hates Teams....Please listen to reason and actually HEAR your users for once on this one...you’re directly hurting your brand reputation EVERY SINGLE DAY you don’t have this feature.
