Show number of new messages per channel without checking it

An essential thing missing from the app is the ability to see how many messages in any given channel on a server have been sent since you last checked it. It's not helpful to have 5 messages look the same as 500. Being able to know how much I'd be reading by seeing it without opening up the entire chat would be really helpful and honestly a necessity for knowing much time one will spend catching up on messages.

Attached an image. While I can see where there are new posts, I cannot see how many. I cannot see if I'd need to spend a full hour catching up or only a few minutes. Having a small number visible somewhere (probably up to three digits, preferably) would be extremely useful, whether on the tabs, or in a pop-up if you hold rather than tap.

This isn't just a problem with mobile, but the desktop version as well.

  I like the idea of this, but there is already a banner that indicates it. But probably a improve of the banner would be more efficient for a normal workflow.
