Profile Upgrade (Express Yourself!)
Being able to express yourself through your profile more.
Some of the features could include:
- Status message (like skype, short, easily changed, first thing to see when messaging someone or looking at profile)
- "About me/Bio" section
- Birthday (server alerts of when it's someone's birthday would be a cute addition)
- Gender
- Websites (instagram, twitch, steam, twitter, etc)
- Location (some people like having others know where they're from (country/state or province/city)
- Mobile/Email contact forms
These are just the first few that come to mind. There's always room for more. All features should of course be optional. Everyone has a choice how much information they want to share, and there should also be a privacy setting as to who can see all the information as well as how much (private (self only), friends, friends of friends/servers, public). I believe this would be a good feature to discord because there's people (like myself) who wishes to be able to express themselves more freely. Having only my profile picture and the game I am playing displayed for others to see feels very limiting.

I like the ideas, though maybe make the bio longer as some people may include blank lines and spacing to make their bio more aesthetically pleasing to the human eye.

Honestly, I'm surprised this isn't already a feature with how long Discord has had to mature now... Slack shows user local times in the profile card that appears on click, it'd be super helpful to have this functionality in Discord too.

- Custom profile header (maybe as a nitro-only feature)
I believe this should be a Nitro-only feature, it gives more benefits to Nitro users this way and also allows for extensive customisation.
- Profile badge for Discord Canary Users (Maybe even for PTB Users)

- Badges for languages the user speaks. They can select them in the settings.
This is a really nice idea, but I believe there could be issues with the factor that someone could speak 20 languages. Maybe have it show 3 maximum with a hover drop-down list with the other languages that person speaks?

- A more compact design for social media links, removed checkmarks & more social media links like Nintendo, Origin, Uplay, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Soundcloud etc.
With this, allowing the user to select the order they want the platforms to display (music, video, etc.) would be really neat too.
My recommendations for other social networks / game platforms would be the following:
- Nintendo
- Origin
- Playstation
- EPIC Launcher
- uPlay
- Mixer
- GameCenter by My.com / GameCenter by Mail.ru
- Soundcloud
- Tumblr
- "Custom" which allows someone to put a link to another page. (Should allow 3 custom links)
Additionally, allowing their to be "Shortened" buttons which are just the icons for the platforms would be very nice too. (Really tacky example here: https://imgur.com/YGRTwUA)

I made a post for a different idea regarding displaying the local time on a text message and it got merged into this thread stating "this has already been suggested" and no, it most definitely isn't. My idea is most definitely not related to the user's profile.
My idea was to be able to display your local time as text when you read the message so that no matter who reads it, it would show as that person's current local time.
For Example: "@everyone How about a raid this Saturday night at <21:30 displaylocaltime> for anyone who is interested"
For me, it would show up as 9:30pm but for someone else in another time zone it would show up as whatever their local time at that time would be. e.g. if someone on the west coast saw it, it would show up as 7:30pm for them. This would make it so that anyone who sees this message can immediately look at the time and determine whether they can make it or not instead of having to calculate the time difference between time zones by looking at everyone's profiles.

discord was meant to be a chat program, but now has its own store for games, etc. why not add some more profile features?

Whats also important to me is what languages a member can speak and if someone has a microphone or not. An own textfield for this in profile would be nice. Sometimes I find people which speak german and english and sometimes I find players who can speak russian or other language. It is important if you are looking for a group for example.

Also it should be 100% optional and allow user to set/change zone and "active time"
allowing change zone for incase discord just detected the wrong thing
optionally allowing setting an "active time" because not everyone is awake just because the sun is on
and also allow visibility options, like to friends, to everyone in this guild for example

What about merging profile of content creators with that ? I mean, look at Steam. If you are developer you can set up a page for your company, but it would be neat to merge that with future? detailed user profile as for example "Senior artist on thegameyouareworkingon at thecompanyyourworkorrepresent" The possibility to anchor a server to it ect. I mean, as content creator, i'd love to have that. Oh and one of the things that make me unable to leave steam is my "time spent on that game..." i know. Useless so essential.
But this is just a suggestion. I support the idea of getting a better profile than what we have actually!5 -

I was under the impression that the note section wasn't seen by anyone but you. While I don't want Discord to turn into a full on social media product like Facebook or Twitter, a small amount of personalization would be cool.

May i ask why there still isnt a response from the devs on this!!? There was actually an original post of this before trending and alot more upvotes and comments before some type of wipe happen on this site. And now its posted again and already almost top voted post for suggestion about this and still no word? Whats going on? This is honestly like the best addition!!
May not be for everyone but you can always turn it off. But being 2019 and this is the best modern gaming platform application.

To people saying "not needed", maybe not for your community, but it's ridiculous to assert there isn't a legitimate need for such a thing. I'm a member of a 3D graphics Discord where members use a variety of different programs (Blender, Lightwave 3DS Max, Houdini, etc.). Knowing what program someone uses is going to change suggestions we might make in reply to works in progress, or answers to help questions. We absolutely need such a feature. A lot of time is wasted right now just asking what someone's using (or posting ideas related to some specific programs when it's another).
This is not a difficult feature request unless Discord is truly that poorly architected, in which case they need to rethink it anyway. There's no reason this request should be languishing for years.

As someone who's spent a large amount of time, effort, and even money on making my steam profile look pretty and spent way more money than I am proud of on cosmetics in games, having highly customizable user profiles is something that is important to me. I like being able to have people look at my profile and get a general glimpse of who I am (or who I would like to be,) what games I play, what communities I am in, and if I am someone they might be interested in talking/gaming with. Having a personal one page website where I can link people to see all about me is something I really enjoy.
I really feel like discord is lacking in terms of profile customization.. Yeah, you can make the argument that changing your profile picture is enough, although I disagree, especially since discord is trying to become a digital distribution platform. The reason that people love steam so much compared to discord/epic games is because it has so many added features, many of which are in the customization department.
Please upvote this post, as I really hope we as a community can show that this is something we care about and maybe even get it into the app. I think that this really could help discord with their mission to become a viable digital distribution platform.

I'd like a profile section I can leave messages in incase I go Dark I can leave a message of when I'll be coming back. Or can add links to stuff I want to share.
What's wrong with discord becoming more of a social program with more than just chat? I hate Facebook, and most of my coworkers use discord anyways

As DISCORD becomes recognized more and more as “not just a gamers” platform anymore; having full blown Public profile capabilities is essential. Adding a non public note to what is only a person’s user avatar is rather bland at best.

After thinking about this, I wonder why it hasn't been done yet. A bio would be absolutely wonderful for a platform based around game community. It seems so obvious.
