Why does Spotify overlap the game someone is playing in their status?

If someone plays a game and has Spotify open at the same time, Spotify is going to overlap their game status just to show what they're listening to. It doesn't even show what they're playing when you open their profile. Why can't it just show both what they're playing + what they're listening to?
