Feature Request: Friend Request Greeting
I know a lot of people, myself included, who use Discord as a way to unify their various other forms of communication. For example, I put my Discord contact info on some my other social sites with some sort of “here I am if you need to reach me” message. However, in this situation, the person trying to contact me needs to send a friend request to actually contact me, and until they can tell me what site they found my info from, I have no way of knowing if I *should* accept their friend request. While having lots of friends is nice, it’s all too easy to accept a friend request from a spam bot or other internet threat. As a possible solution, it could help to allow people sending a friend request to attach a single message to it, giving them a short chance to introduce themselves before a real conversation starts, and thereby giving the recipient a chance to sort out who they want on their friends list without having to judge off of just a username and an icon. It can be a restricted message, too, in order to prevent abuse — text only, with a limited length, for example — but I, for one, would much rather have a slightly better idea of who I’m going to be talking to *before* I have them on my friends list.
