Colour differentiation for compact mode in dm's

I recently switched to compact mode for a cleaner look, the only problem is that you can't at a glance see the differentiation between the the people speaking. It would be nice if the background between the messages where shaded accordingly or maybe some kind of colouring of the usernames. It doesn't even have to a chromatic colour maybe just an off-white for the other person
