red mark on inbox when there's inbox items or tags

Every other thing in the gui marks when there are new messages or you've been tagged, the only thing that doesn't is "inbox", where every forum on the planet for the last 20 years has a red mark when you log in.

(plus the icon doesn't look like "inbox". we all want to get rid of stupid skeuomorphisms, yes,  but those, too have been looking like a postal envelope since the dawn of the internet and I'll gladly pass my knowledge on to the youngins - and while we're at iconography, "arrow up arrow down" is "change sort order", not "filter". "Filter" is tricky and "coffee filter" as an icon my be stupid, but people dig it the fastest.)
