Good Idea: Discord Kids
I was thinking about the fact that kids can't have Discord, and I thought, "What if there was a Discord Kids?" Discord Kids would be a safe place for kids under 13, let me list some features that would probably need implemented for it to be legal, and some other features:
- Chat filter.
- Parent approval (have parent enter credit card info and charge parent USD $0.01 or something like that, oh and have parent insert their email)
- Server/Username/Chat/Image filter.
- Parent Dashboard (parent can buy the kid nitro from parent dashboard, but kid cannot buy nitro in-app)
- Colors. Tons of colors. Not eyestrain colors, but colors.
- PFP filter.
And really, anything else to make it legal or fun for the kiddos.
Feel free to reply with your thoughts.

The problem is, what would kid talk about anyways, i mean... there is not a lot of things kid would do on discord. Vcs exist too, where they could do bad things and swear for exemple, which would kill the point of having a 13- discord app. Also, filters are easy to bypass with special characters and symbols which would do the same thing, it's literally impossible to filter everything and you can't filter pfps and image if it's not a link. Worst part about this is that adults could have access to discord for kids and start to do bad things knowing most of the members are kids because you know, it's internet.

Discord servers are in the USA, and therefore have to comply with USA laws. It doesn't matter where you are personally accessing them from. Also if you read the information they have to wipe, it includes usernames. Can you imagine a special Discord for under 13-year-olds with no username? No way to identify them? No. Because the service operates on people sharing usernames to maintain a connection. Discord's main service, it's very existence, cannot operate without a username to share with other people. You can't have an under 13 Discord without being constantly anonymous, with no friend's list or chatrooms that maintain your posts with a username/icon with every message you send being recorded for your parents to read and delete. That undermines the entire point of Discord. Sorry kids.
It's almost impossible to filter every special character combination in the world. Good idea, but there is the ever-present filter problem.

I agree with this post but they should atleast be able to have nicknames, and plus should only be used for friends they personally know

This would help a lot with all of the concerns with Discord, having a parent being able to see what their kids are sending, what severs they are in, and who they DM. Kids will get on discord anyway, if you structure it and let parents have control, then you will be a lot safer.
As discord is rebranding as a place for everyone to talk, they need to open up to everyone so they can keep working on growing bigger and bigger.

In response to COPPA laws, they don't say that they can't track kids it's that they can't track kids without permission from the parent. Having a kid account with the ability to see everything that's going on and what information is collected, what they are sending, etc will make it comply with the laws.
Also since kids are still on Discord they need to structure it fast because if it gets picked up by the COPPA laws they will get sued, just like YouTube.
