Threads: Create a Subchannel Enable/Disable parameter
It would be preferable to allow threads to not involve a subchannel, possibly by associating a binary parameter with the thread:
Enabled: Create a subchannel for the thread in the channel list.
Disabled: Do not display a subchannel for the thread in the channel list.
(Presently, threads are always in the Enabled state.)
.
Presently, users are able to force any other user into a thread subchannel. This can bloat the channel list even when used unmaliciously and certainly can be used maliciously to force creation of subchannels for users other than the thread creator.
Instead, users should be able to choose their default "Display joined threads as subchannel" behavior and should be able to modify whether the thread displays as a subchannel beyond that point.
For example: By placing a new button box in the thread window area typically reserved for button boxes such as [ Join ] and [ Unarchive ], marked:
[ Subchannel ] / [ Unsubchannel ] or
[ Superthread ] / [ Basic thread ]
the behavior could be switched for anyone joined.
Admins and/or additional permissions could possibly also have access to a button marked:
[ Stage Thread ] / [ Unstage Thread]
which could reveal/hide a thread subchannel to the entire server or a specific group.
