Totally agree with this. This happened to me multiple times on messanger and on instagram. I just completely started to ignore those people because they didn't understand it and kept only using VM.... Hopefully it won't happen here on discord as well, and they will allow this function you proposed.

    100% agree. Here is why:

Often, people use voice mails to just ramble on. What could have been said in two or three sentences turns into minutes of "uhhm, ehhm, you know, like, uhhh and here is that personal anecdote which has nothing to do with what I am talking about but I still want to tell it to you and you have to listen to all this crap because there could be something important in my monologue that you are sitting through!". It's a waste of my time!

The other thing that actually really scares me is the impact it might have on my work. I am a Community Manager for an online game, and of course we have an official Discord server for this game with thousands of users. I get a lot of messages every day. It takes time to read them all, but it would take much more time if they were voice messages and I would have to listen to them. I already got the first one and let me tell you, it sucked big time. I cannot just ignore them though, because it's work related. And unlike with text messages that I can read while I use my headphones - for example during meetings or calls - it requires my full auditory attention, which means I cannot multitask those messages anymore.
Also, customers often want to hop into a voice call to discuss things; this is something I do not do. I am only available via text. Now I have no way to escape this, they can just throw their voice message at me, and I will have to deal with it.
And on top of that, sometimes customers are really unhappy, and they express that in their messages. It's one thing to read a message full of insults and attacks. It's something completely different having to listen to someone yelling and cursing at you. I do not want this.

It's also an inclusivity issue. I am autistic, which means I have troubles processing auditory input. Now it's the one thing if I misunderstand something when I am in voice chat for my - private - gaming activities. It's a completely different thing though if that happens with a work related issue. I might have to listen to messages multiple times to make sure I understand them correctly, and this will just eat up so much time and brain power! The thought of having to handle voice messages from customers is actually panic inducing for people like me. I feel comfortable in written communication, but much less so in verbal.

I have made a little video explaining the issues with voice messages in the hope of giving more visibility and credibility to this post.

    Here is the link: https://youtu.be/aHgi6Y52wfA

I used your comment Shileah, I hope you don't mind.

for someone with a phobia of phonecalls that can not take unexpected phone related things or some random people, as well as a server owner it would be great if your suggestion would be put in as my server is now on hold simply because i can no longer tollerate the mobile version as it invokes my anxiety and phobia. Sadly discord will just pretend to take accesability issues in to account if its made via tickets instead of the upvotes so i truly hope that this suggestion gets implimented as it is the best for people who want/like to use it without driving off the people that cant as everyone should be able to chose if they want to use a feature like this or not.

Personally I REALLY don't care for voice messages. Text or GTFO. I use text-based platforms for text, not to pretend I'm having a phone call. That's what actual calls are for, not text chats.
