New default channels not visible

I tried enabling community for my discord server today and while I like many of the features that essentially replace bots, there's one issue that is incredibly annoying and I think it wasn't intentional.

You set the whole onboarding and you set the default channels and categories. Great.

What happens if you want new channels that should be default? If you make them within the default category - great. If you want to make a new default category, well then you can't. Sure you can on paper, you make it, you go to onboarding and set it as default but the problem is it doesn't update for anyone already in the server. People will not see it, unless they have the “Show all channels” setting checked for the server. The opposite of that these settings are supposed to be for.

It only updates for people who join the server after the changes.

But here comes the most annoying part, you would think that turning off the onboarding, or even the whole community would reset and fix things? No, it is all saved. Everyone who was in the server upon the first onboarding setup will not see new default categories unless they turn on “See all channels”, add them manually or rejoin the server. EVERY TIME.

I just spent few hours on all of this, onboarding, troubleshooting etc. And it all makes me want to disable community, just because after onboarding I wanted to create a new category for important channels. Ridiculous.

Apparently this has been an issue and has been reported many times since the launch of the feature. Please fix this.

    I'm very agree, this does big effect on activeness in the server when I announced something in the not visible channel

    hope Discord will fix this,

    Having the exact same issues here, and many new channels are being completely missed by our existing members.

    This is a really bizarre implementation, as I fail to see any reason why this current configuration would be a good idea.

    Surely the Discord server admin, as the facilitator of the space, should have access to how it’s setup and viewed by members.
