List of Issues with the New UI Update
Chiming in on the chorus of people who hate the new update, here’s what issues I and others I’ve spoken to have identified:
- Global search has been removed, meaning you can’t search outside of the channel you’re currently in. As a server moderator, this is a huge hinderance to being able to manage a server effectively, and didn’t have any obvious reason to be taken away. This should be replaced ASAP.
- Font sizes and colors are hard to read (eg in-app notifs, DM previews, and channel/setting group headers, among others). Even as someone who doesn’t struggle with accessibility I find it hard to read from these after the new update, and for people with accessibility issues I’m sure it’s even worse. Font size and contrast should be increased.
- When accessing pins from the channel info panel, text content is reduced and embedded content is hidden entirely. In the server I moderate we include informational content in the pins, and this new formatting has made it difficult/impossible to ascertain the pinned message’s content without clicking to go the original message. Showing full message content, even in a separate window (this is what happens when you click “See all pinned messages”), should be the default behavior.
- Similarly, it seems that embedded media content is sometimes omitted from messages in channel and replaced with a media link, which is a hassle for trying to post images/videos. Might be specifically when the image/video is uploaded as an attachment (+ button). Default behavior should be to show the embedded content if it’s a supported file format.
- This is a minor issue, but having the text channel icon in the server list use the same font as the server titles is mildly confusing. Changing the font used for the icon would help differentiate them.
And there’s probably more issues, I can see many people have already posted grievances about this update as well. Please use this feedback to give us an update that improves the app experience instead of making it worse!

the way the pins dont show embeds anymore frustrates me. theres still the old menu with embeds which you get to when you click “Show all pinned messages” after you pin something. this menu is like the old pins list, except that there is for some reason no other way to get to it. i would also like to add that when you pin something, the pins dont update until you restart your mobile app. and in DMs theres a bug where all the pinned messages seem as if they were all sent by the person who im dming, even tho i sent and/or pinned those messages. this combined with no embeds makes it pretty much useless when you have multiple messages pinned that are images/videos. the UI response time seems slower too, like theres this noticable delay when i switch between the servers and dms tabs.
i dont get this update at all since the old UI was already compact and convenient to use and we were all used to it. the servers list and dms list being on the screen at once was again compact and convenient. discord said the old UI was just the “desktop app scaled down”, but i dont get why that is really a problem, why should the mobile app be completely different from the desktop app? tho there are a few nice changes like the server-wide search being at the top of the channels list.2 -
“When accessing pins” uhh yeah, assuming you can even FIND them, which they made very unintuitive and require extra steps.
