Yet Another Mobile UI Post
Listen, I understand the instinct to be all “you'll get used to it” when people are upset about an update. But I'm usually pretty good at telling the difference between me disliking something because it's simply different, and when I dislike something because it's actually been made worse.
Some of the new things, I think once they're tweaked due to feedback will be okay (all DM pins being in one big pile, for example, isn't something I wanted but I can understand why someone else might, and maybe one day they won't be the borderline useless mess they currently are). I didn't care about having my friends list visible at the top of a menu, but I don't hate it and could get used to it within a day. But some of the new stuff makes the entire experience worse.
Trying to have multiple conversations at once, especially if one is happening in a server and the rest are happening in DMs, is a friggin' nightmare with this new UI. What used to feel effortless now requires extra, pointless taps. I never had trouble telling the difference between DMs and servers when they were in one bar, because of how they used to be displayed. It was easy to glance and see if the server notification I got was likely to be aimed at me specifically or was probably a server-wide ping I can ignore for a few minutes while I finish a DM conversation. Or I could easily see if the three servers I'm most active on had some activity, instead of the ones I more or less ignore but don't mute keeping my server tab forever in a ‘new messages :D’ state like it does now. Or if the three DMs I just got were from different people, one group DM being chatty, or something else, letting me decide if I want to pop away from a server conversation I'm having for a few seconds or not. Now I have to tap between servers and DMs and it's more annoying and less intuitive than it used to be, and frankly it's worse. It's worse!
The other thing that is definitely worse is how pins are being handled. I run a small server for one of my guilds, it's not big enough to be a ~community server~ but it's not just a handful of people either. Having that entire server's pins mushed all together is messy as hell and more difficult to use. Especially when thread pins are mixed in there, ESPECIALLY if it's a thread that's been archived for years and forgotten about. And I can't see whatever images have been pinned without letting the app pull me back in time to whenever it got pinned. If I want to go back for context, I'll click and go back, why force it instead?
But at least with server pins, I can see who actually said the thing that got pinned! In DMs, they're all labeled as from that DM. Did I say this thing? Did my friend? According to the pins, it was entirely my friend, which I know isn't true. It's even worse in group DMs, because they're all just labeled as being from that group DM. Which … no shit. I understand that's part of the whole ‘all DM pins in one pile, hooray! :D’ thing, but it makes the pins less useful overall. ESPECIALLY when, again, you cannot see images or anything. That is, again, not ‘bad because new,’ that is ‘bad because worse.’
Also for some reason, whenever I swap between DMs, it scrolls back a page for no discernable reason. I am assuming that's a bug, for my own sanity, but that makes it all the more frustrating that I can't go ‘yikes, they need to iron this out more’ and opt out of the new UI.

THEY MIXED THE PINS?!
How did i not notice this! Channel pins are an extremely important feature, especially for modding. I cannot fathom why they would do that
And I agree about your point about it being more than just ‘you’ll get used to it', I feel that, it's not that at all, the update sucks
To think they ever marketed it as an upgrade to organisation…
