Collapse images, website info, and other expandos

Basically the same functionality as /collapse on Slack.  This allows for in-line images and website info to show in chat for a user but lets you hide away large, flashy, or NSFW images without disabling image display entirely.

    We need this for gifs, images, web link previews, etc., but especially gifs.

    (Click an arrow above an individual gif and it will hide. Click the arrow again to show it again). See Slack for reference.

    It's a huge oversight that it isn't a feature of Discord. Please add this feature soon, thank you!

    C'mon folks this should be like 1 day of dev work. Just follow the paradigm of Slack and add a button to collapse. Why is this being ignored?

    3 years, basic problem, tons of interaction..

    Why don't you correct this Discord?

    While you're at it, fix your Feedback program, it's broken

    I agree with this.

    There are circumstances where users either want to declutter their server channels OR hide a picture or link that they just don't want to see. This would be a valuable tool to give users more flexibility over the content they see.

    Please implement this. Discord has the coolest and largest feature set I've come across. This would be a nice addition to that already solid user experience! :)

    Wow, I can't believe it's been 4 years since I first replied to this thread. As a fun side project, I decided to see if I could make this for myself, but I think it works well enough to share with anyone who's interested.

    For the web, I made extensions for:

    I also have a user script for people who prefer those hosted here.

     

    For the desktop app, things aren't quite as seamless, but still shouldn't be too much trouble if you really want this feature. The installation process has some prerequisites to install and you'll need to run a console command every time you launch Discord with my script injected. Instructions are on my Github. 

     

    Hopefully this helps a few people here. Any questions or feedback are welcome on the Github page.
