It's been 4 years, please implement the option to separate Discord's audio to the Media stream instead of the Call stream!

Late 2022 and honestly I'd recommend losing hope in this ever getting fixed

I rarely use voice calls, I just use Discord to listen to music on dedicated music channels.

The whole call quality switch is actually at operating system level (Android) and the switch happens when the microphone is requested. Unfortunately, Discord still requires the microphone even if you are on mute *sad face*

If you use Discord more for music than calls, then a "solution" is to remove microphone permissions from the Discord app and the call quality will stay as media quality.

Or, on Android specifically, you can set the Microphone permission to "Always ask", and then depending on the case, you can enable for calls or leave it disabled when you enter music channels.

As for Discord, the expectation here is to simply handle microphone access on whether Mute is activated or not.

Five years later, and there still isn't any other option but to revoke microphone permissions to fix the problem.

I know it's not entirely Discord's fault, but there must be something that can be done about it.

they've made it worse in the beta, it now grabs control the moment discord is opened and will not release it until it is force closed.

that means no music while checking messages, amd no game sounds when switching between a game and discord.

So this is a problem they've had for YEARS?? I've only encountered this problem this morning and I was hoping to find a fix but holy shit…

the underlying problem of forcing headset mode was a conscious choice to make switching between speaking and listening easier.

this has become worse because the app now no longer waits for you to start a video or voice call, but instead hijacks the headset upon any activity.

this even includes notifications that come in while the app was forcibly closed.

i have found a way to bypass this, in your bluetooth settings disable the headset/ phone profile for your headset leaving only the music/ media profile active.

unfortunately this does disable use of the microphone everywhere, including real phonecalls.

I thought this was a problem specific to me. I only tried a voice call on mobile for the first time yesterday, and now when a discord NOTIFICATION comes in, my bluetooth music sounds mono and low-fi.

Also experiencing the issue where discord switches to call mode, in the beta version. A workaround that sometimes works is to go into a call (for example in a group with only yourself) and leave the call. Doesn't always work though.

Really wish Discord could open for third-party clients so we wouldn't be forced to use the buggy official app…

Even just opening the discord app makes my phone think a phone call is occurring resulting in my audio quality to drop or stop completely.

This only started 3 or 4 days ago.

latest update fixed it so headsets remain in headphone/stereo mode until you open a stream, videochat, or voice chat.

The problem still exists on my side. The problem comes from both Discord and Android, Android forces a reduction in the quality of Bluetooth audio devices in call mode (which is quite stupid because today devices can fully support a Bluetooth call in high quality), and Discord uses Android's call mode to use the microphone. It would be possible to work around the problem by using the phone's microphone at the same time as the bluetooth device (this is possible at the software level), but the choice is not available on discord. In itself it is possible to use the microphone of a Bluetooth device on Android, but using it during a call puts the connection directly into "hand free mode", and therefore a huge drop in quality.
