Dedicated Stream Channel
The Discord twitter told me I should post about the idea here.
Basically what I said over there was the ability to join streams without joining that specific call.
Whether you're in a different call in that group or even another group call entirely.
Or not in a call, at all.
I think it's fair to say a lot of people don't like being in big calls, or even jumping into small calls with new people, and would much prefer to lurk or use text. Or maybe they're already in a call elsewhere, but still want to be a part of the stream. They'd have to straight up abandon that call, unless everyone happens to be in the same group as the stream. And even then, kind of awkward to continue a conversation in a different call.
So I was thinking something like a dedicated stream channel for the group, like how there's dedicated text and voice.
Just a simple page with video and a text chat under it.
Could be a specific privilege for a role to take control of the stream.
Optional alerts, abilities, Nitro features, so on.
An example of what I'm imagining is a group made for an artist/gamer fanbase and that main artist/gamer could do personalized streams to their group, where any member can watch without interrupting what they're already doing on Discord.
And I get there's streaming sites. But a lot of those sites can be a hassle, too cluttered, or just feel outdated to even watch, let alone the steps you need to stream yourself.
Discord created built in streaming software that feels better than any third party software I've used so far. And it's bafflingly easy to use, no less. Plus a ton of people generally like streams. I think it would be good to build on that streamer base more.
