Need way to hide list of members, need a way to make it so fresh non member users cannot see anyone in the discord except for admins. Not just hide online or offline members, fresh joins should be unable to view anyone in the server without permission

True. But really that person logging in, should only be in that room for a few moments. (you could make it so they cant see that room at all actually) the room is just there for failures.

This is an obligation I have a game server cluster and some ppl joins to my cluster discord group and sends pm from the user list to invite another servers, groups, etc. This is unacceptable I build a community but to not to feed other easy pickup trollers. I love Discord but not in this way. It's a very easy implementetion just give an option to Group Owners&Admins to show/hide user list. PLEASE FIX THIS!

Our guild has just 5k members but we would really like this feature. We are occasionally hit by cryptocurrency spammers who DM a large amount of our member list and annoy a lot of our users, some of whom leave Discord.
We have added phone verification and a bot captcha, but we suspect that these spammers are using one account (or hacked accounts) to pass the verification and obtain the user list, then feed it to fake accounts to send out all the DMs.
Currently we don't know what to do except recommend that users disable direct DMs from non-friends, but understandably a lot of people don't want to do that. I wish we had the ability to hide the member list instead as there's no real need to show all the online users to everyone who joins. It would be nice to be able to toggle this for different roles. Then we could protect our members from this spam.

My setup, with the bot... your in the first room, alone. ... EDIT. i went on, but maybe i hsouldnt broadcast how im setup. :)
The Feeder setup is the hardest to overcome. but a combo of things (your bots) mitigate it.
The user list, is only so good as if they click on each name and send. (ugh, more info i shouldnt say) try to find a server im on... and ill help.

So I've recently run into an issue similar to what some of you have described. I already have a landing channel that disallows viewing other channels until users pass a captcha bot, but that doesn't stop people from viewing members on the sidebar to reach out to them with spam messages. I believe the "membership screening" option may be of help, though. I have just enabled it, so can't speak for it's effectiveness, but it seems like it should stop spam accounts from viewing the sidebar, before accepting terms, to stop/slow spam messages

In summary, the spamming self-bots had verified phone numbers (or a way to bypass the phone verification requirement). And it is likely that they can exploit the gateway Guild.query_members() functionality to pull an entire member list from a server even as an unverified account trapped in a single channel.
We've enabled screening as per TEEMAL's suggestion but it seems likely that these bots can bypass that too.

So far the servers that ive setup like this, i dont get dm's at all from the 'ppl' in the verification room.
the only ones that are IN the verification room are the ones that havent completed the verification step.
You do NOT need to even have a verification room. no room, no way to see list.
(i dont know about the above post bypassing all and seeing all members with gateway exploits, hopefully thats fixed asap)
I'd love to help. Just the initial comunications problem (as you cant dm me unless we are on same server) only way to do that is a discord server link to one of my list, (but i assume invite links wouldnt be allowed in this post) hence the link to the BOT itself, that i am a member of THAT server.

Ofc my membership numbers are alot lower than 5k.
i think the busy one that i run is around 1k is all.
others that i am in that use the same bot are larger, but i dont think they have set up the same way as i have.

I have seen a server with its members hidden. This is entirely possible. How? Not sure, but I've seen it.

The server I admin got hit again last night, with the user screening turned on. I'm not familiar with the discord API but it seems like the auth scope for any member on a server has access to something like `.query_members()` like what @hyperreality suggested.

I posted the link to the Discord channel for the bot i used.
(the 2nd time, its still waiting on approval)
Goto that server.. I am in their server, DM me then (make sure we communicate) and then i can invite you to my server /me to yours and maybe we can hash something out together. (or get an idea etc)
after that, we can just leave the others server. (or you can stay in mine, doesnt matter)

Annoying: join my server, ask question, then leave. wth. wait for an answer...DISCUSS stuff.
when you log in, DONT do the verify yet. look at what you can see.
you see 1-10 ppl that are UNVERIFIED yet. and any admin/mod thats it.
(and anyone dumb enough to dm one of those, deserves the ban.
I have multiple bots, but Captcha bot is my main Gate.
But again, if you come in asking for help...DONT leave. talk in the verificaiton room first.
(and wait!) i dont look at the server often. im busy. 7days a week, moderating various servers.

giantkin to note something I said in another thread (there's a few requesting this feature), one of the issues is that since it's still not tied to a specific "can view userlist" permission, there's certain crawler bots that are harvesting user data without having to worry about captchas:
Members of our community have been getting worried about "crawler bots" that join for just an instant, take a note of everyone in the server, then leave again. I'm told the are ways around the solution proposed here by API access or some modified client (which I will not test since that's against the TOS). I would be nice to truly lock down the full memberlist to specific groups.
I'm most concerned about fixing this.

True. thats the hardest to stop.
(i dont know what they crawl, if they only crawl the visible, this works) but if they can actually get through to the user base anyhow... ) not much we can do about that until they fix that vuln.

I have been attack and my members too, we have only 60 Members... i'm worry about the futur of all those spammer from anyform, i'm scared of what will come next, we need a way to hide all the list from the new people.

When you first join my server, DONT verify. what do you see?
BOTs. and me. thats it. (maybe others that havent verified yet.)
after you verify, then you can see inside. its not hard to setup.
just get it done.

yeah for your serveur système.... i want a public voice and textuel one too... so basically it's impossible to hide them if i want that right ??so i could verify them by your own, before they can see any members

You log in, see no verified members,
after verify, you see every verified member. (you no longer see the Unverified room) which is the key.

I'm unfollowing bc this is mostly solved by autoassigning a role to unverified members, and making it so the only room they can see is a room that verified members can't see

Hasn’t been resolved at all. It’s honestly a safety concern for discord’s user base and makes discord look terrible growing a name for themselves as a spam haven. The devs are either being lazy or or ignorant or both in their timeliness of adding this as a feature and their responses to users.

Not seen any response from Discord on this topic. Seems like they just don't care.
My original concern is that Discord is open for people over 13, potentially got server with them along with adults.
What you don't want is adults inappropriately messaging minors. Its a massive child protection issue.

it's not solves... everyone know that you can make a channel just for those unverified... i want a public channel that people can talk with members without seeing them on the side .... but it's not possible apparently.

You could make an channel for every user with a bot who can transmit messages from user channel to others annonimously. Sorry for my bad exprimation.
