Mobile phone required = discord, no thanks!

After getting invited to use discord and my initial interest, I invariably get the request for a verification by providing a valid mobile phone number. A landline number is not accepted. I don't have a mobile phone...

A desktop application that requires a second piece of hardware (= mobile phone) for verification/operation is a joke.

    Seems like a grab for mobile numbers... Perhaps it's a monetization play on their part.  I'd rather pay than give up my privacy.  Thanks, but no.  My privacy > Discord.  :(

    yeah discord requiring phone numbers is just wrong ntm its a waste of my time i have no phone number thanks alot discord

    Agreed - this stupid issue with me having to have a second device to verify my account is just plain 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐲. The fact that I need a 2nd device to verify account when I don't have one is the reason I have been locked out of my account. >:(

    exactly, i dont have a mobile phone number rather i use google voice so this is really dumb because i cant enter certian discord servers

    I just registered a new account, and there was no field for phone number.

    Then I got a verification email, clicked on it and I was logged in successfully. I could start adding servers.

    But one minute later it logged me out automatically and asked me for my phone number. Very suspicious!
