Swipe gestures disrupt scrolling

If I type a message long enough to scroll in the preview, then while I'm scrolling it, the side menu comes up. It's pretty sensitive, and I can't move my finger perfectly vertically. If I adjust my finger to make it go away, then I can no longer scroll the message without lifting my finger and starting the scroll again. One gesture preventing the other is good, but it currently only works one way. So I have to start scrolling again, which ends up activating the sidebar again, keeping me from scrolling. This makes scrolling very difficult. Scrolling in the text box should prevent activating sidebar swipe gestures for the duration of the touch, just like partially activating those gestures prevents scrolling. It would also be nice to have an option to disable the sidebar swipe gesture, but it's more important for it to behave properly.
