7/21/2020-ish Update to video call is a step backwards
I use discord to do screen-sharing with students I tutor. We both share and view each other's screens.
Recently, (between 7/21/2020 and 7/24/2020) a change was made to the discord client that changed the way screen sharing works, and any time I want to refresh/change the content I am sharing (eg stop and restart to change framerates, reset lag, or switch screens), my student has to switch back to the discord window, stop following the video, and manually follow it again. (click a button to "leave stream" and click a button to "view stream")
This is highly inconvenient- when a user in a call begins sharing a screen, viewers in the call should automatically and immediately begin viewing the stream if possible, without requiring any extra interaction.
Additionally, there are now extra squares per user when they are sharing a screen. The extra squares per user are incredibly annoying- it should be one video square per person, all of the time, even if they're not sharing a screen.
This makes it much easier to figure out if someone is or is not sharing. If their square shows their avatar, they are not sharing. If it shows video, they are. This may just be me, but I am not ever interested in seeing webcams, and sharing more than one screen doesn't really make any sense from a presenter point of view anyway.
Additionally, it always tries to default to sharing a window. If I share "Screen 1", that should be selected by default next time I share screens. (Again, this may just be me, but Screen Share should always be preferred over window share as the very first selection when using the feature for the first time)
TL;DR:
- Upon re/sharing screen, call members should immediately start viewing the share if connection supports
- Please revert the call display to show only a single square per user, regardless of if they are sharing or not.
- Default share should be remembered between sessions

I 100% agree to this.
The old system was just better in my opinion
