Please keep Discord a place free of censorship

Lately I have been seeing more and more platforms issuing top down authority to censor speech they do not approve of, and altering their TOS to restrict what people are allowed to say (often while practicing biased enforcement of this TOS.) What makes Discord unique from all these other platforms is that each server is its own self-moderated space, and that Discord does not generally intervene to shut down servers or voices they do not like.

I think this is one of the things that makes Discord so great. People are free to create their own servers with their own rules, and if you don't like a given community, you can go find another or create your own. I love this system, and I don't think we should take the freedom it grants Discord users for granted.

I really hope that Discord users realize what a special thing they have here, and seek to preserve it. If you see something you don't like on a server, either bring it up to the server staff, or leave the server. Unless it is especially egregious, please don't bring it to Discord staff in an attempt to have the server purged, that is unnecessary and could hurt the Discord community as a whole in the long run. As for Discord staff, if you see this, please continue with your current policies of general non-interference. Many Discord users appreciate this, and we mostly just want to keep to ourselves and talk among our own communities, and have fun in our own spaces. Thank you.

     I absolutely agree with you.  It appears Discord has followed the same slippery slope as other platforms in the last few days by banning servers of those they don't like.    As freedom of speech -- even for people we don't like -- is very important to me, I'm stopping all use of Discord after this post.  Whether I come back depends on whether things improve.

    It's highly unlikely things will "improve"...
    Discord has become an unreliable platform that without any sensible reason may completely destroy all your hard work in any moment, justifying this by their weird irrational desires and perverted political motives. No any sane person can trust and rely on this platform anymore.
    It's time to find/create an alternative, even if that alternative is less convenient/functional - reliability is the most important factor.
