Login friction is super high compared to other communication apps. Discord aggressively signs me out / expires my session, and puts me through a bunch of hurdles to re-authenticate.

Hi Discord! Sending a diatribe here, to document the incredible amount of friction I encounter every time I try to use / sign in to the app. Have run into this many times, and would love to see some of it resolved, considering how great the platform is otherwise.

Issue 1:

I’m nearly always logged out. Pretty much every time I try to boot up Discord anywhere, my session has expired. This is on desktop, mobile, and web. Why is this? I move around a lot, and frequently change Wi-Fi access points, which I know can affect this, but I don’t encounter this problem with any other communication app (Slack, GMail, WhatsApp, social media accounts). Discord seems like it has some very aggressive session rules going on.

Issue 2:

The login flow has a lot of hurdles to make it through, especially considering how often I have to go through it. For example, on desktop, I have to:

1. Enter email and password.
2. Or: Log in with QR Code on mobile app (can’t do this, because I’ve usually been signed out on mobile!)
   
3. Go through a visual captcha.
   
4. Enter a two-factor authentication code from Authy.
   

On mobile:

1. I can receive a push notification about a message, and STILL be prompted to re-sign into the app when it launches. I can’t think of any other communication app that does this.
   This only seems to occur with an expired session, and not if I’ve fully manually signed out. So a repro might be:
   Log in, allow session to expire (timeout, change WiFi / location, both?), receive a DM and push notification, touch the notification to enter app, trigger the session security check.
   
   

Issue 3:

This is all compounded for users with multiple Discord accounts. I have a personal account, and a second account I use for a small community I run. I have to go through all of this every time I sign into either. Some sub-issues:

1. I’m frequently directed to the “Something’s Going on Here” screen, when using multiple accounts, and forced to verify by email or phone.
2. Verification emails take a long time to receive. I waited about 30+ minutes for some today. Eventually had to resend them, and they still took a while to arrive.
3. On mobile, verifying by phone number does not fail gracefully if no phone number is linked to the account (I don't attach my personal number to my 2nd account, and prefer email or Authy code).
   

Issue 4:

support.discord.com is super wonky. Today, trying to Sign In, to report my issues or upvote existing ones, I was just being redirected to the “Submit a request” page, with no explanation, and no account name appearing in the top right of the screen.
Seems like this might be another issue around expired sessions. Having signed out and back into my second account on desktop, I am now automatically logged into that account on web, for the support forum, but unable to manually sign into my primary account.
There should be some way to manage accounts or manually sign in here. Seems like it’s all session / cookie / redirects, and maybe dependent on the desktop app session as well? It's hard to tell.
