Stop truncating over-limit Text messages after switching channels
(My experiences with this are in the Discord Desktop Browser and Discord Mobile App (iOS) versions.)
This is the scenario that I am referring to:
- You type a long Text message inside a Text Channel, that extends beyond the single-message character limit (ie, the character count turns red), but have not Sent it yet.
- You switch to another Channel temporarily (pop-up notification, or you need to check information located in another channel, etc, etc, etc).
- Normally, switching back and forth will still preserve any text that you typed inside the "message composition" box. However, in the case of any text that is over-limit, it is instead truncated to a maximum of 500 characters over-limit, and any excess is discarded, upon returning to the original Channel.
This is very frustrating, especially if you are unfortunate enough to be working quickly or under time pressure, and have not noticed that your text went over-limit, in which case Discord is basically doing "omae wa mou shindeiru... nothing personnel, kid" to your potentially-important long text entry.
Please just leave the entire over-long message sitting inside the input box, and let the user figure out what to do with the "overflow" text. (Usually, that solution will not be "just completely delete it").
(Actually to be quite honest, you could also just... like... remove the character limit, or make it a Server Administrator or Channel setting, and then just automatically split overlong Text messages into multiple separate messages... but, perhaps the technology for such an advanced concept just isn't there yet. Maybe in the 22nd century.)
