Concept - Discord server ban appeal
Hiya!
I made something kinda related to some other suggestions (1500000409862, 360050954934, 360050470331 and some other ones) which could be used to appeal for unban directly on Discord. The graphic design is based on the "Membership Sceening" one.
Here is an idea what it would look like:
When receiving an invite
In server settings
In ban appeal form tab
Hope yall will appreciate what I did! If you do, you can leave an upvote; this means much to me!

I already saw this on Reddit and it would be so nice if this would come to Discord! :D

Also MUST add a permission to manage ban appear form and view and manage appeals.

Arslan35 it could just be the manage server permission to manage the form, and the ban permission (which also lets you unban) to accept / reject appeals.

Alfa_Flo this post is originally from reddit. the same reddit user posted it here so it might actually be a possibility to be added to reddit.

I’d love this. And also, I might suggest modifying the text that notifies you that you’ve been banned from a server, so that it also tells you the reason(s), date/time, and length of your ban as well so you don’t have to go ask the owner or staff member what you did wrong.

But what if the banned member abuses this form?
I think that should be accompanied by a "2nd tier" ban (like a "perma-ban") who would prevent the member to appeal at first place. Relying on Trust & Safety isn't an option, given the last times i tried to get help from them.

Hello, it's a very cool ideal, I'm waiting fort that !

Only thing I could add is to make sure that ban appeals can notify the moderator role, like a ping, so that they know there is an appeal up for review. Users shouldn't be able to appeal multiple times before a decision to make sure they can't abuse the system at all.

Very Cool Concept!

a cool concept, take my upvote

The best concept that I have seen! Thanks. It really helps people when they are banned.

I was making a concept for this too, and I stumbled upon this post which was exactly what I was thinking it could look like! I've made another concept which would be the windows you'd be presented with when you appeal for your ban:
I know it's not the best, but it shows my general idea.

That system is very nice because I got banned from a server, tried to appeal by contacting the owner on Twitter, but he didn't reply to me, and I'm still banned there.
And it should be required that the appeal system be enabled in all servers to ensure that all members can appeal their bans. If my idea isn't implemented, the ban reason should be shown to the members at least (when ban appeals are disabled). The same should apply to kicks.2 -

Yes, we don't want staff members ignoring ban appeals, do we?

Davi 6596 Issue with ban appeals being mandatorily enabled is some servers only unban in exceedingly rare cases and have no reason to have them enabled. Others might end up flooded with false ban appeals from raider accounts banned from a server. Other cases server staff may choose to use an external service for ban appeals as is common presently. There's just generally no reason for ban appealability being mandatory.
Showing the reason for the ban I can definitely agree with though, as I've seen numerous occasions where someone gets banned from a server and doesn't know why.

KraftenMari See that's the reason this is needed. If servers use external services it could be hard to find that specific service since there isn't really a standard. For now, I've been experimenting with a Banned role which only gives them access to one channel, #ban-appeals which only people with that role or moderators can see. The only problem with that is that they're still shown in the server list which can be weird for someone that isn't familiar with this system. Otherwise before a ban you could make a bot send them a link for a ban appeal form, but then the user may have DMs disabled meaning they won't receive it. Not really a practical solution as you can see.

Fair enough, but if you were banned without a reason and you couldn't appeal the ban, would you like that?

Yeah, banned users can only see the ban reason through bots' DMs; and that's a problem.

I've seen a server with a "Banned" role too.
Also, there should have a way to soft ban (The user is banned and immediately unbanned; user's messages are deleted), temporarily ban, and mass ban.

Sir Waffles your design is clearly better than mine!

bumping this just in case :)

Would be a nice feature, for sure! Yes please.

This feature would be very nice. It would also be nice if a user who already made an appeal is no longer able to file a second apeal. Only he gets unbanned and is banned again than he can file out an new appeal again.
