Make the bot tag on discord webhooks optional
With the idea of people with DID/OSDD and systems/alters becoming a slightly more recognized topic on discord each and every day. There's bots that help alters express themselves more. For example, with bots like Pluralkit, it serves the purpose in allowing people with alters to have a form of self expression. All without the need of creating multiple discord accounts.
However, there is one thing that is very bothersome.
Because of Discord's webhook limitations. There's always an ever-present BOT tag next to every message sent. It looks like this:
this leads, almost always, to someone referring to these individuals as bots. Or users become confused as to "why a bot is talking to them".
Simply put, it can be very exhausting and frustrating to have to explain over and over that these are alters—real people—using pluralkit to communicate and have a form of self expression. But, pluralkit is limited by discord webhooks, hence the BOT tag next to the names.
I know this may not seem like a huge deal to majority of people on Discord, but as someone with OSDD myself, and as someone who has friends who have alters; I believe that with the increase of users on discord that have alters/systems - it may very well be something to take into consideration. Finding a way to somehow make the bot tag at bare minimum, optional in terms of discord webhooks.

I would suggest to anyone who does not understand pluralkit or anything of the likes including DID/OSDD, to definitely do some research too! It'll help gain an understanding to everything. Also I'd like to definitely say that pluralkit, with enough moderation and proper rules in place, can't be misused by every single person you see! ^^ again, research before you call things a "danger"!

If you're using a discord bot, people should be able to know. The BOT tag isn't saying that the people using it are bots, it's saying that they're using the assistance of a bot and the message is being proxied by a bot. That's important information.
Remove that and you're at risk of raiders, spam, and causing a ton of confusion...confusion that pretty much wouldn't solve this issue. (Ex: "Why is Discord not letting me DM you?" + "Where is the option to friend you?" + "Where's your user ID? Are you a bot?")
I understand that it's annoying when some people are like "WHY IS THAT BOT TALKING?" They shouldn't do that. That problem can be fixed through gentle education and bringing awareness.
Eliminating the BOT tag would just cause more problems. Problems that would threaten the functionality of Discord. There's probably a better answer somewhere else, imo.
EDIT: Furthermore, remember that a change like this would affect ALL discord bots that use webhooks. In one of our servers, it's really important that people know which messages are from bots and which are not. This would screw people outside of the system community.

hopefully commenting helps boost posts

i can entirely agree with this it’s really hurtful being a called a bot makes us feel unreal and such this would help so many alters within systems

This would be very easy to exploit outside of its intended purpose for scamming and other things. I'm also worried about this creating confusion in conversations, as I already find the use of this bot disorienting despite being used to seeing it in the servers I'm in. Being able to see that a bot has been used helps me know what's going on in these conversations and which users the server even has. As someone who's autistic, social interactions can be v complicated at the best of times, and not being sure who's talking doesn't help

Yes yes! Definitely. I don't think people understand how hurtful being called a bot when we are real people is ^^;

Agreed

pls pls this would make life sm easier if the tag was gone :weary: -scot

Absolutely agree! I don't have alters myself, but I have a bunch of friends who do and I can tell that it exhausts them to have to explain why the bot tag is there. Having it be optional would be a huge help and hopefully make it easier for people without systems to understand.

Yes, 1000% yes.
4 -
Well, ok I guess this would work...Hope it is put to good!

While I understand that this is frustrating to explain what alters are over and over again, it's unlikely Discord will change anything about the webhook tag other than renaming it from "Bot" to "Webhook". These tags are to help users differentiate bots from users.

Oh, welcome back Póllo. It appears you definitely haven't decided to leave things peacefully? ^^;
See, there are many resources out there to help you understand alters as well as DID and OSDD and why making things like this more accessible to systems is actually rather important!
My entire post, if you do care to read it over and carefully so - highlights what pluralkit is for, and why having the bot tag on webhooks an optional thing, could be helpful!
And, genuinely. I'm definitely not going to go in another loop explaining myself over and over when last time you seemed to reach a peaceful conclusion! ^^4 -
Yes.

So, to explain as best as I can going off the main post.
Systems/alters use pluralkit to talk because it gives alters a sense of expression! It prevents from having to create multiple accounts, and while to some it may not be an issue to create multiple accounts, or simply sign off their name before or after messages. Not all too many find that route easier or convenient. Especially when a good majority of alters/systems discover pluralkit and use it.
From experience with us, signing off our name constantly or trying to keep tabs of changing our nicknames all the time was just not working out and people were left confused.
The thing is, pluralkit uses discord's webhooks. Hence why it gives off the impression of having "multiple" accounts. This is why we use webhooks! I hope that clarified it a bit?

Yeah

exactly what Josaiah said smh

Now when did I say "all" servers? I said servers with enough good moderation and careful watching ^^ I definitely did not imply all servers did!

Not meaning to make that message sound rude im just really confused on why ya'll have to use a webhook to talk?????????

I'd normally agree with you, comment above, but I will say that discord has it's own tag: I know about the tag because I signed up for the student hubs, and when it finally rolled out, the system dmed me about it. Another thing about the bot tag is that verified bots (aka bots that discord recognize as being safe + popular enough to get verified) have their own tag, take good ol' carl bot, for example:It has a little checkmark next to the bot tag, whereas if you had a scammer using a bot/webhook, it doesn't feature the checkmark. I get what you're saying about the scamming thing, and I do feel it may be unsafe, so my suggestion for this is that maybe make it so that server owners (I say owners and not admins, because owner can't be given as easily) could disable/enable the bot tag for SPECIFIC webhooks / bots, although I'm not sure how easy that would be to implement. It's an interesting suggestion, and I also want this to be implemented, but there are some security issues, although those are present without this suggestion too. As a general rule, don't click links you don't recognize, and make sure it's spelled correctly. When in doubt, use a url checker/scanner, and if anyone tries to send a link to an 'official' giveaway from discord, don't click it- just block and report the user. //Jonas

And what if they, by chance, added permissions where you could restrict such an option for everyone? And only make it accessible under certain channels, certain roles, and whatnot?
1 -
I understand where your coming from but still. I've been one of the innocent server owners that gave trust in someone and they ruined my server when they gained trust and got perms.

This would absolutely help systems! Please consider this, it's very harmful to alters (who are in fact REAL PEOPLE BTW) to get called a bot because it makes us feel like we're not real people with real lives! - Kokichi
1 -
Yeah! It's really disheartening for us to be treated almost as non-human just because we have the BOT tag next to our name
1 -
Agreed 1000% it's so hurtful and just all around annoying to be called a bot by complete strangers, and then have to explain everything to people who treat you like google -Ranboo

"With enough moderation and proper rules in place, can't be misused by every single person you see"
Let me break this down for you, since I can definitely tell there's some jumping to conclusions here ^^;
I did not explicitly say "all servers"
What I mean is that if there is any server (meaning servers in general (notice how I didn't say all?) out there, who care about their communities, and go through the process of proper vetting and get good and proper staff on board.) who looks after their community and makes sure things are in line.
There will not be that much of a problem! :D doesn't mean the problem would be totally eradicated, and I can agree with that. But it means the problem would be significantly less!

I'm sorry I'm still very confused on why you need to use a webhook? The reason that its
disheartening
is because your using a webhook, just don't use a webhook if you dont want you're self to be depressed or sad or upset about it. I am not understanding what and why all of you are all about the BOT tag and why you have to use webhook???

Yeah! We're a system and its exhausting trying to explain to people that we're real living creatures with emotions and feelings and that we aren't some "bot" -Angel Dust

you should have definitely read the post thoroughly and educated yourself on DID/OSDD before even commenting. it’s common sense. but considering the comments you’ve left so far, i wouldn’t expect you to have any, Póllo.

Alters are people. I do not tolerate nor have the time for people who believe otherwise. I’m not a system myself, however, I’m best friends with some and I know the hell they have to endure just to have a single ounce of individuality from one another. Imagine if you were called a “Bot” just for expressing yourself in a chat. Imagine if you were reduced to just a “Bot” for simply using your proxy, and having others mock using your proxy because they genuinely see you as a robot. If Discord genuinely cared about it’s users, systems being a large part of it’s community, they would allow the removal of the “Bot” tag from plural kit, or at least change the tag to something so blatantly dehumanizing.
