Krisp-Enabled Voice Channel Permission Override
Problem:
In 2024, despite the widespread availability of noise-canceling tools like Krisp and NVidia Broadcast, some Discord users still refuse to activate them during voice calls, resulting in disruptive background noise for everyone else. Specifically for the nerds with webcam/laptop microphones, where just the act of them gently setting their phone on their desk sounds like the door of a Boeing 747 landed in their bedroom.
Proposed Solution:
Introduce a new permission setting specifically for Voice Channels:
- Permission Name: "Krisp Required" or "Noise Cancellation Required"
- Function: Only allows users with Krisp (or another designated noise-canceling software) actively enabled to join and speak in the Voice Channel.
Benefits:
- Improved Audio Quality: Drastically reduces background noise in Voice Channels, making conversations more enjoyable and productive.
- Encourages Responsible Use: Incentivizes users to utilize noise-canceling tools, fostering a more considerate community atmosphere.
- Customization: Server administrators gain finer control over audio quality standards within their communities.
Impact:
This feature would significantly enhance the user experience within Discord Voice Channels, particularly for communities that prioritize clear and distraction-free communication. By giving server administrators the ability to enforce noise cancellation, it promotes a more respectful and enjoyable environment for everyone.

That would be quite a nice feature. The only main difference with this though is that the noise canceling isn't currently a server-side setting, but user client side. Cosmetics, account settings and personal information aren't things that Discord can let other user change due to violations with privacy (if I could bring my best guesses to the table). Sadly, the noise canceling currently falls under those account settings that are protected behind the user's personal settings. Unless they change this in the future, I don't know how they'd offer something like this, but it's a great request that I'm sure many people will greatly enjoy! Alternatively, rules can be made in servers that require members to enable their noise canceling and server moderators can remove anyone from voice channels who don't comply. That's something I've done with my servers and it's been quite effective!
