New Discord UI (March 2025)

I am sure there are plenty of topics about this and I honestly hate that I have to resort to going to a feedback account just to make sure I am heard. There's no way to sugar coat this: This is a nightmare.

The new update was made with accessibility in mind, however it is the complete opposite of it. The idea of being able to customize the UI density is a great idea, but this is is executed VERY poorly. The Density offers three options: Compact, Default, and Spacious. The issue: each one is still extremely small, cluttered, and overall inconsistent.

The spacing for DMS has an area for gaming, requests, shop, nitro, and direct messages themselves. The issue: Not everyone looks at these items. Having them overtop the DMS defeats the purpose of having DMs and things thus get lost. In addition, the server list is so cramped and crowded that now it is hardly noticeable when you get a notification. The square look of each icon also contrasts with the roundness of icons from members and group chats. 

Moving on, the Profile on the bottom left is severely mis-sized. The message part to the direct right is not lined up, thus creating a nightmare of mismatch. In addition, the server name or direct messages appears on a bar on the very top of the screen. This is not only unnecessary, but creates far too much unused space on the rest of the screen.

I am disabled and reading does not come easily to me. In addition, the concept of change as drastic as this, especially one that has very few benefits, is extremely distressing. If the goal was accessibility, this was the complete opposite of it.

I understand that change is necessary for a growing company. I also understand that UI will change in design for a site as it grows, however this change has caused not only me, but many others extreme distress and discomfort. My request is simple….fix this PLEASE and fast.

This is the only way I am aware to send feedback. If you would like more, please let me know. Here are the changes I personally believe would help:

1. Make buttons more consistent in both size and shape
2. Clean up space OR allow for people to customize where they would like their space to be utilized. Ex: I do not play the games on discord. I would like, personally, to not see it above my DMs. This goes hand in hand with the servers on the side as well. Another option is to allow people to have an older UI if it is what they prefer
3. Less space for user profile, as it is not a necessary part of the experience. I am on discord to interact with others, not stare at my status

TLDR: The new UI has several uncomfortable changes that result in a more unsettling experience while using the app, including, but not limited to: Inconsistency in buttons/chat boxes, clutter and unused space, and a lack in an eye catching disability and accessibility friendly app. I request for changes or at least to be heard in my negative feedback.
