I dislike the new UI on desktop (just got it on March 25th, 2025)
The new UI has a lot of elements I don't like.
- The “box” in the bottom left with my icon, and mic status is annoying. It covers up server icons and message threads. I liked the original look where there weren't any obvious elements that “something is covering this other thing up”
- The server Icons are too small, and scale horribly when moving between different size monitors. When moving discord between a 4K and 1080p monitor, I feel like I have to squint on the 1080p monitor just to see the server icon
- The display up top of “Im in X Server”, or “Im in Friends” is… dumb…? I know what server or group chat Im in, because thats the thing I clicked on. Im not sure why this is necessary, this feels like a waste of space. Also on the same topic, the way that the server icon list and top bar are not separated, just bugs me. I dont like that my server channels and chats feel like “a window inside a window”.
- Rounding EVERYTHING. Every text box, icon, activity panel, server, etc… I dont understand why. I guess it looks “modern”… but I don't like the modern look personally. Im a fan of windows have clear and defined boundaries, and having actual corners.
- The ability to resize the servers info/chat “panels” is awkward. I have no idea if this has been around a while, or is this is new as well, but I have accidentally grabbed that bar and resized the panels multiple times now. Can't figure out exactly what the original size was now, and that will haunt me for the rest of my days.
That is about everything. I wish we could revert back to the old UI, but I was told thats not an option by support today.
