Installation choice
I don't know for you, but my default hard drive is very short on space. So many softwares won't let us chose in which hard drive we could install their app, but the Discord team is better than that.
Thank you.

I just landed here after looking it up, cause it looked so weird not to be able to choose the location :3 +1

I hate companies that don't ask where you would want to install a program. It gives me the feeling of intruding and that the culture in the company is a: 'I don't care what you want' (top down) kind of culture, rather than listening to the customer (bottom up). Just asking what path you would like to install the software makes a ton of differene and a company more likable with a better image. I'm not someone who just says 'do it and go for it', I'd like to think and it's MY computer. I deside what I want and where I want it. But this post is 10 months old and I have installed the app 2 weeks ago. Nothing has changed thus far so untill then the conclusion is: this IS a company that doesn't care what the customer wants.
I will uninstall after this post.

Absolutely infuriating that after 3 years of this being requested, it's still not possible.

Just want to bump this back up to remind the devs.
I would much rather have discord install on a different hard-drive. I use my C: Drive for Windows only so I would prefer if discord wasn't on there to save valuable space (as it's only a 120 GB SSD)

It is true that it can be very convenient! Good idéa! +1
Thank you for making sure you have this feature!

It's great that you can choose where your games library goes, but I want to control where the APP goes, and you can't do that.

Yes please! Not sure why it isn't a standard to allow us to pick the installation directory.

cant install discord on my ssd :(

Gamers have been complaining for years... I saw now that I left a message a year ago....
Either Discord does not give a damn... Or their programmers are too inept! Wonder which one it is....

2,5 years and nothing changed in this case XD

Major +1, hope this is done soon 2 -
same, i bought an 8TB external hard drive specifically to run programs off of. i really hope they let you pick where it installs soon!
also, being able to uninstall it from C: would be AWESOME, it wont let me delete the folders currently
2 -
@frozenjim you can change install location for games
2 -
@codyyy - cool!! How?

I have uninstalled this intrusive program. Most games have in game chat already. I will not use a program that places files and registrations ( tons of them! ) on my C: drive and registry without asking!

STILL NEED ABILITY to set drive!
2 -
How the hell is this not a thing? Utterly pathetic.

Yea cuz when playing games hdd wont be able to handle good with "head jumping" causing sound errors etc. +1

Unable to set a custom installation folder? What is this, the Third Reich? Unacceptable Dischord!

I pay for backups of my SSD Mirrored "OS DRIVE" and do not WANT to pay for backups of my Spinning Disk "GAMING DRIVE".
I am now forced to uninstall Nitro games regularly... sub-optimal and it forces me to choose Steam more often.
This is a big deal...

Major +1, hope this is done soon

How is this not an option? I thought it was default for every software ever. Discord fix this it's VITAL! You claim to understand gamers yet don't realize they might have more than one HDD? C'mon guys.

the best solution I found is discord portable https://github.com/portapps/discord-portable/releases

I know this is a dead topic, but I'm writing this here regardless: unlike any other application ever, Discord doesn't install for the system; rather, it installs into the user's home folder. For example, on Windows 10, you can find the actual installation folder - with the main executable, the updater and everything - under /Users/(username)/Appdata/Local/Discord.
This is a really stupid thing. It means that every user that uses Discord has a whole installation in their home, and that's why you can't choose where the installation is done - and why it will never be a thing.
If you want to "change" the installation folder, you have to use symbolic links (by following this guide, or any similar one):
- (If Discord is not already installed) create a symbolic link to whatever directory you want to use, then run the installer;
- (If Discord is already installed) move the Discord directory to another location of your choosing, then create a symbolic link to it.
