Server Wide Channel Mute
The ability to toggle a channel so that notifications are automatically turned off for all users of that channel by default. This would be for things like the Poke bots and Dice bots, so they don't spam notifications when people are using them, or other low priority channels, and allow for better separation from announcement type channels without turning off notifications for the entire server.

we seriously need this
2 -
Yes! That could be very useful (and users can have an option to unmute) 2 -
God, I NEED THIS
2 -
um i think its over XD I don't want hate comments or anything but I agree. I don't wanna start a fight but I already made a server a long time ago I just tell people not to talk in #rules channel. Thanks for your help guys! I read all of them.

@SARAH - there are setting to prevent people from posting in certain channels, that's not what this issue is about. The idea is that newbies may get discouraged by the spammy/bot channels and admins want a way to prevent that before a person joins.

i *believe* there is a way to do this, I had to try to figure it out today for pokecord. If you are a mod for the server, go to the server notification settings, go to notification overrides, and select the channel you wish to be muted. there is an option to select all, mentions, nothing, mute. select mute, and it should mute the channel automatically for all members of the server if I understand it correctly. Idk I just tried this and asked others to let me know if it worked for them, so I'm assuming this is the function you were looking for
-1 -
Can't you already do this?
1. Select Notification Settings
2. Scroll down to "Notification Overrides"
3. Select a channel or category and select the boxes that you want.
The question here is if I check the mute box and the mentions box, will that mute all mentions?
There is no documentation on this so I'm kinda confused.
-1 -
@souschefnug - these settings exist regardless of if you are an admin or not, so they are for sure only for your personal account
2 -
@RoseEmber you can do this indeed, but as an administrator there is no way to mute a channel by default for everyone who joins.
I have channels that gets spammed, and I'm afraid users will just mute the whole server because of it, instead of only the channel. I find this feature would be really useful indeed.
As someone said, a solution would be to use self-assigned roles to access those channels, but I don't find this is a suited solution.

We need this so bad. If you have any channels that get a lot of posts such as live voice channels, introductions, bots or offtopic, they all spam the heck out of users. Most people mute most servers they join, so what even is the point of notifications?
I need to ability to control which channels are sending notifications so my users don't just mute us instantly.
2 -
I think this would be a great feature. I agree having the power to mute message heavy bot or game channels would help in retaining users and preventing them from silencing the whole server. Also helps cater to the not as discord savvy

Just make it so that normal users don't have access to the channels that the bots spam messages to . On my server, I have various bots that only people of different levels of access can use. For example, my music bot will ignore any messages posted in the #general channel - this feature is only available to registered users of my community, and to use the music bot they make a post in the #musicrequest channel (where the bot DOES listen for messages).
Other of my bots have various moderator level abilities, so I created a channel that only real moderators can post in, so "normal" users won't see any output from the bots.
In other words, I believe if you configure your channel permissions correctly, you won't need this feature?-1 -
@digital.$Nick - I don't see how this solves the problem where some people want to interact with the bot and others at the same permission level don't. We have game bots on our server and not everyone wants to use them.
1 -
@digital.$Nick that makes no sense, I want everyone to be able to see and use this channel, but its a command channel so most people don't like constantly getting pinged by it so they mute it, but if you make a new commands channel, a bunch of people will get annoyed they are getting pinged again, becuase they didn't mute it yet and that annoys them, it would be easier to just let people unmute a channel honestly since everyone will just mute the channel or the whole server once they start getting annoying dings
1 -
I fully support this, and can't say enough how much this needs to be a thing for someone who is a admin on mutiple different discords for different purposes, I can say this would be so useful, because not everyone is there for the same reason, and I don't weeant someone to mute the whole discord server, just becuase they are getting dinged by a commands text channel thats just stupid

Isn't @souschefnug right?
Click (Server Name) > Notification Settings, you'll see this window:
You can set the notification behaviour of every individual channel or even mute the entire server if you want. This seems like the exact thing everyone is looking for? No?
-1 -
@dewie no, this is about server administrators muting a channel for all users. That setting is for users to mute a server for themselves. We want to be able to change the default to muted for specific channels.
1 -
@skeddles ah I see, thought that would set it the same for everyone. They should definitely add this.
2 -
Fully support this. I am shocked this is not currently implemented.
2 -
Why is this not yet a feature? Every time I join some server I had to find which channels are "dedicated for spam" as in bot commands, etc. and then mute them one by one.
All the defaults can easily be overriden by the user, the implementation for that already exists. Also visual cues on which channels are muted would complement all this.3 -
oh god now I need a mute channel. How do I do this can discord see this now? Like its so annoying ppl are spamming everywhere I cant stop them. help.
me again, @SARXH

@mxmo Not sure what you mean, but you can mute channels by your self. The topic here is: admins sometime create channels for musics bots, game bots, and they spam alot. So instead of each person do the muting, admins set it to "mute for all users" from the beginning, so not everyone get spammed.
The situation now is that: If I create a new channel and set it as a public one, every message will ping all the people with the roles allowed in those channels. It is extremely annoying for people who rarely log in or always on but will never need to use those channels's features.
In short: you can mute any channels by yourself. If you are and admin and want to keep people away from getting pinged all the time by unnessescary spams, this is what we are asking for.
1 -
@Bao Anh Nquyen I know that. I tried that too and I know. The last paragraph you wrote is what im looking for. I need to know how to get bots from spamming in mutes channel and exactly what you said, "Getting people away from getting pinged all the time." Thanks for helping out!

Pinging this as it it a really important feature that shouldn't be too hard to implement if this post gets enoguh visibility.
2 -
As a relatively new server admin, I found that I needed this feature the moment I set up my first bot, and found only this thread. I'm very surprised that a muted-by-default option didn't come up as a high priority to implement the moment it became clear that bots were a thing.
Please give us this important control!
2 -
Adding my name to this list as well. Much needed feature!
2 -
I totally agree, this is a much needed feature.
1 -
100% needed!
2 -
HOW IS THIS NOT A THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING
2 -
