I really hope that the people at Discord will add something like this in! It takes hours for me to scroll back to that start!

Yeah. It takes me hours just to find what I want in the search let alone scrolling.... two years of conversation means there is a lot of stuff to scroll through.

Does anyone know a 'work-around' for this annoying oversight?

I have to scroll up for 3 hours to get the first chat, so silly

In my opinion, scrolling up all the way is what makes it special.

    @TantricTrader:

I've discovered that 'search for a relatively common word or greeting phrase, then page through search pages' can skip a large amount of scrolling and get you quite close to the start of your conversation.

I searched 'meet', as it's common for me to say things like 'oh hey, nice to meet you!' early on.  Lo and behold: immediately leaped to the beginning of a six-month, near-constant conversation.

It's a kludge, but it works.

There's an easier way to go all the way to the first message than scrolling. In the search box in the top right you can search before, during, and after a specific date. Might take a while if had to scroll through 150.000+ messages.

The easiest way that I found through another Discord member is:

Use the Search function. Type in the particular channel (where you want to go to the top) on experiment with the "before function" till you get very few messages . Then click on the jump button which will pull you to the top.

    Step by Step:

Top right click on the Search Box and you will get a drop down menu.

Choose IN from the Search options.

You will get another Drop Down menu listing all the channels. Choose the channel that you need.

Click on the Search Box again and choose BEFORE and choose a date. (If you know tentatively when the channel was started then mention that date else you need to experiment with it. TIP: Experiment till you get very few messages).

Hover your cursor to any message and then click JUMP which will appear on the right of that box. This will pull you to the top!

The following worked for me in the latest version of the desktop app:

With the channel in question active, try

    • click in the search box
    • choose "in: channel" from the resulting drop-down
    • select the channel in question from the next drop-down; should be the first one listed
    • then select "Oldest"
    • click "jump" on first message listed

That should get you to the first message of the channel.
There does really needs to be a "jump to start" choice down by the main message field right along with "jump to present" like other users have requested. I'm not sure if the above process works on mobile, but the later would for sure

I just discovered a new way to get to the oldest message in a few seconds.

    There are all the steps:

    1. Open "Search" bar.
    2. Select "after".
    3. Type 1000.
    4. Press enter on top right screen.
    5. Select "Old".
    6. Drag your mouse to the first message and press "Jump".

    There you go!

There is a really simple way to view the first message in a channel.

    1. Go to your search bar and type in:

    2. Type the channel name of the channel you want to find the first message

    3. Click old when the list of messages load

    4. You should see your first message. Click jump to get to it

I could not find how to get the first message in a whole server. But there you go! I have an example from Study Together!

Doesn't really work in mobile. Tested it to be sure, but desktop pulling from @Erktiky! here:

HOW TO GET TO THE START OF ANY CHANNEL CHAT IN DISCORD (works only on desktop not mobile):

    1. Click the Magnifying Glass ON THE TOP RIGHT OF THE DISCORD WINDOW.
    2. Select OR TYPE "after:" (not in quotes).
    3. Type in "1000" (not in quotes).
    4. Press enter.
    5. Choose "Old" as part of the XXX,XXX number of RESULTS.
    6. Click the VERY FIRST POST on it, and then a JUMP BUTTON will appear to the corner of that post.
    7. Drag your mouse TO THAT BUTTON AND CLICK "Jump."
    8. Volia! There you go! The VERY FIRST post of that channel!

    -------------

    ADVANCE MODE ACTIVATED

    -------------

If you want to get super specific you can do a combination of:

in: (channel you want) after: 1000

choose first comment, after choosing "Old" in results.

Its actually very simple to jump to the start or to a particular point (let's call that bookmark X) The administrator of that server/channel can write a message that's only has the text "bookmark X" and pin that message to to message board (is that it?) The visitor can check the pinned messages click on bookmark X and will jump to that message

Copy the link of any message in that channel. Replace the last ID (thats the message id) with a 0. Follow that link and it will load the first message in the channel
