Denied friend requests do not disappear from my pending list... really irritating.

So I have apparently been waiting for someone to accept my friend request on Discord... I would assume that, once someone denies your friend request, the user should disappear from your list as well as you from their list, yes? Apparently, that isn't happening. Now here I am in a very agitated mood, trying to figure out why my friend request is being "ignored" when this person has apparently already denied my friend request without me knowing at all. I tried it with a more reliable contact, asking them to deliberately say no when I send them a request. My name disappears from that person's list, though theirs does not disappear from mine. This singular malfunction has been the source of several days of needless agitation and anxiety, and I would like something to be done about it, please...
